This large vertical rusty red and orange monochromatic landscape oil painting imparts feelings of romance and nostalgia while being definitively modern in color and composition. In the foreground, a tall tree with textured foliage accents the saturated orange sky. In the background, a valley plunges into the horizon line. Mr. Britell's dreamy and ethereal landscapes are dominated by a single color; their monochromatic hues of deep red, orange and yellow reflect off of loose brush strokes and gentle handling of the paint, a departure from this artist's typical hard edge realist painting technique.
About the Artist: Richard Britell, a career painter, studied at Pratt Institute with Philip Pearlstein and Walter Erlebacher. His first show in NYC at Staempfli Gallery was sold out, and reviewed in the New York Times. Britell’s new works revolve around large, dreamy cityscapes tending toward abstraction. The artist currently lives in Pittsfield, MA.

Richard Britell
Richard Britell, a career painter who studied at Pratt Institute with Philip Pearlstein and Walter Erlebacher from 1962–64. His first show in New York City at Staempfli Gallery was sold out and reviewed in the New York Times. Britell’s new works revolve around large, dreamy cityscapes tending toward abstraction. Britell currently lives in Pittsfield, Massachusetts and was born in Utica, New York, in 1944. From 1964–66, he studied at Syracuse University, Syracuse, NewYork, from 1970–72 he completed his BFA from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
