About the Item

A fine landscape along a brook by American artist Robert Ward Van Boskerck (1855-1932). Boskerck was an Impressionist landscape painter who preferred quiet scenes drawn from his domestic and foreign travels. He graduated in 1877 from the The School of Mines of Columbia University School (the first mining and metallurgy school in the U.S.) and received his artistic education from R. Swain Gifford and Alexander Wyant. During the early 1880s, he painted views of New Jersey and Long Island, and later, spent much time in Holland, France and England. He also painted in the Adirondack Mountains. Van Boskerck was elected to the National Academy of Design, New York City, as an Associate in 1897 and an Academician in 1907. He exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City, and other major museums. Oil on canvas, signed lower right, titled on front placard “When Woods Are Green” and housed in a molded giltwood frame. Dimensions: 25 in H x 38 in W, actual; 34 in H x 47 in W, framed. Ref:7
