About the Item
Artist Comments
Water gently ripples forward, reflecting the lush vegetation ahead and the voluminous clouds above. "It's a lazy day in midsummer," says artist Rodgers Naylor. "A canoe trip down a lazy river in the middle of the country. This painting was done not only to convey the peaceful mood of such a day but also to study the difference between the real and the reflected, even on calm water. There is always the quality of the surface of the water itself, plus the quality of the reflected shapes, which tend to be slightly darker and softer-edged than the shapes being reflected."
About the Artist
Rodgers Naylor boasts more than 15 years of making art. He enjoys painting in his 1920's Denver bungalow studio and en plein air, depicting both rural and urban landscapes. He especially loves scenes that suggest a story or have an interesting arrangement of light and dark shapes. During his free time, he enjoys hiking and snowshoeing in his home town in Colorado.
