"For a few brief moments on the south rim, the morning sun lights up the canyon walls like neon while casting blue shadows into its depths," says artist Crystal DiPietro. She presents an impressionist landscape of the breathtaking Grand Canyon. Crystal captures the contrasting colors & complex geology with her unique style using line & form. Earthy shades of sandy brown glow from the radiant rays of the sun.
About the Artist
Artist Crystal DiPietro paints majestic sceneries inspired by her personal trips to beautiful untamed places. She creates landscapes as rugged and dramatic—setting her style apart from the usual soft and delicate perspectives of the genre. Crystal pursued art school in Washington, D.C., where she got to go behind the scenes in major galleries and explore hiking, a huge source of her work inspiration. She composes her work with bold natural views in unique angles, vibrant colors, and loose brushstrokes. With her own photography used as a reference, Crystal expresses the details in her paintings slowly, in layers, the same way a photograph develops. “I intend to show a subtle beauty where the viewer may never have thought to look,†says Crystal. Her work hovers between capturing a brief dream and a contemplative impression of the scene. She achieves this by allowing viewers to come away with new respect and appreciation for the worlds around them.

Inspired by the lush vineyards of France in the fall, artist Lisa Elley paints an impression of the scene. Light caresses the quaint village during the breathtaking summer. The vineyard flourishes in the foreground, creating a dramatic and colorful effect. She achieves a rich, buttery texture through thick impasto application.
About the Artist
Working almost exclusively with a palette knife, Lisa Elley maneuvers her artistic blade with an uncanny fluidity. Why paint only with the knife? She says, "when I paint with a brush, which I do occasionally, I tend to focus on the detail. With a palette knife I can't focus on the detail too much, so my paintings are looser, and more gestural, with bigger sweeps and strokes." This technique is called wet-on-wet. And it seems to be quite popular, as she has been bestowed the title "Knife Queen" by her facebook fans. Fun fact: Lisa's high school art teacher told her to study harder at math, as a career in art was "impossible."
