Landscapes of the Soul and of the Mind XIX , Abstract Expressionist Landscape
Located in Doylestown, PA
"Landscapes of the Soul and of the Mind XIX " is a 44 x 56 inches, original, abstract landscape by American master colorist painter Al Lachman. The artwork is a gallery wrapped canvas, signed "Lachman" in the lower center. It is part of the artist's series "Landscapes of the Soul and of the Mind". The artist puts his thumb upon the pulse of life and records it. In that mystical beat lies the unknown, and he would but make it known. Being both, innovator and spectator, he exists as an intrinsic part of that rhythm. I try to approach each painting with a minimum of predigested information. I look at the world with the natural curiosity of a child, always looking for unique qualities that each new moment brings. Talent, I believe, is found in the ability to take risks, and with that in mind, I am continually willing to risk it all every time I paint. The most exciting paintings, for me, are the ones that balance a bold fresh approach with the sensitive and subtle workings of the heart and mind. - Al Lachman Born in 1936 in the Bronx, NY, Alan Lachman...

Baro Harbour, Sunset (Nigeria), Oil on Board Painting by Derek Hill
By Derek Hill
Located in Kingsclere, GB
Baro Harbour, Sunset (Nigeria), Oil on Board Painting by Derek Hill 1916-2000 Additional information: Medium: Oil on board 18.5 x 41 cm 7 1/4 x 16 1/8 in Titled verso Provenance Acquired from the Artist by Adrian Stokes, and thence by descent. Exhibitions London, Marlborough Gallery, as 'Lagameno Harbour - sunset', with label attached verso Arthur Derek Hill was born in Southampton in 1916. He and his two older brothers attended Marlborough College, where he demonstrated an interest in, and a talent for, painting. His father persuaded him to study stage design rather than painting as that had greater prospects for employment. Consequently he enrolled to study stage design in Munich at the age of 17. He later studied under Paul Colin in Paris and under Dr Josef Gregor in Vienna. Dr Gregor introduced him to Tairov, the director of the Mamemney Theatre in Moscow, where he spent six months in 1936. After working in Moscow he took time out to travel east via the Trans Siberian Express to Japan, China, Bali and Siam. In 1937 Hill returned to England to a job as costume designer at Sadlers Wells but after a short time he went back to Paris. Encouraged by Edward Molyneux, a couturier and collector of impressionist art, he rented an old mill in the Loire and took up painting in earnest. When war broke out he returned to Wiltshire in England as a conscientious objector and worked as a farm worker. He painted in his spare time and met many artists including Victor Pasmore and Mary Kessell. In 1943, at the age of 27, Hill had a one man exhibition in London at the Nicholson Gallery and he also organised exhibitions of the work of other artists including Degas. In 1946 Hill spent a year painting in Ireland. He had relations in Co Wicklow but mostly painted in Galway, Mayo and Achill Island where he painted with the Irish artist Louis LeBroquey. From 1947 Hill spent a great deal of time in Italy. He met the art historian Bernard Berenson who admired his work and became a father figure to him following the death of his own parents. He spent many winters at Berenson’s home, the I Tati estate, outside Florence. During his time in Italy he met many Italian artists including Antonio Music, Renato Guttuso, Bruno Saetti and Giorgio Morandi. He also met the American Henry McIlhenney, who was working at the American Academy in Rome. McIlhenney owned Glenveagh Castle in Donegal at the time and invited Hill to visit him there in 1949. Hill returned again and again to Donegal and in 1953 he bought the house the old St Columb’s rectory, Churchill, now Glebe House, and moved in the following year. Glebe House was Hill’s main home from 1954 until 1981 although he continued to travel extensively during those years. He was appointed the Art Director at the British School in Rome where he met such artists as John Bratby and Joe Tillson as well as the more famous Francis Bacon, Henry Inlander, John Craxton and Keith Vaughan. In 1956/8 Derek Hill visited Tory Island for the first time and was fascinated by the light and rugged scenery. He rented a hut there and spent many weeks every summer painting. His example and encouragement led to the development of a whole school of naïve painting, the Tory Island Painters, of whom the best known artist is James Dixon. Hill’s career as a painter, particularly of portraits, blossomed and he was commissioned to paint many famous people some of whom visited St Columb’s. His portraits include those of Daniel O'Donnell, Yehudi Menuhin, Arthur Rubenstein...

Abstract Expressionist Virtues Landscape Venetian Plaster Painting Shawn Dulaney
Located in Surfside, FL
Shawn Dulaney The Virtues III Handmade paint on venetian plaster on paper, signed and titled verso 22 x 30 in. (sheet), 28 1/4 x 36 1/4 in. (frame). Shawn Dulaney’s paintings are layered constructions of color, spacious abstractions that read like cloud banks, flows of water, magnetic fields charged with monumental energy. Dulaney spent her childhood on a vast Colorado plateau looking west to the Rocky Mountains and has travelled widely, immersing herself in landscape. Her work captures the experience and feeling of place. Doug McClemont of ArtNews writes that Dulaney’s paintings “concern the earth, and the unyielding hand of nature”. Her work has been described by William Zimmer of The New York Times as belonging to “a very strong tradition, that of 19 th -century Northern European Romanticism in which nature was seen as corresponding to human emotional states.” He says of her work, “Ms. Dulaney makes it clear that her inner life is very much a part of each painting, and this alone distinguishes it from most abstraction…Shawn Dulaney is deliberately out for grandeur, but she is also out for intimacy. Her paintings take advantage of their innate ambiguity and declare themselves to be very current in the thinking that lies behind them.” "The kind of painting to which Ms. Dulaney's work is most closely related, at least superficially, is the Mark Rothko branch of Abstract Expressionism, in which a sense of deep space is sought." Dulaney makes handmade paints consisting of acrylic medium and powdered pigments allowing her to get a wide range of saturations and transparencies as they spread out on Venetian plaster and linen over panel. “Her surfaces”, as described by Dominick Lombardi-also of The New York Times, are “exquisitely painted and a pleasure to see.” Dulaney continues to travel between New York, the American Southwest, and the United Kingdom, as well as having recently been awarded the Pink House Artist Residency on the Beara Peninsula in Ireland. Her paintings capture the ephemeral and evoke the Celtic notion of a “thin place”, a place of energy where the veil between this world and the eternal is thin. A working artist for over 4 decades, Dulaney is represented by Sears Peyton Gallery, Weber Fine Art, Carrie Haddad Gallery and Beth Urdang Gallery. Exhibited widely, her paintings can be found in extensive public and private collections including those of the Hunterdon Museum of Art in NJ, the Venetia Resort in China, J Crew in NYC, as well as in the private collections of author Annie Proulx, actor Steve Buscemi, talk-show host Conan O’Brien and musician Stuart Copeland. Her work has appeared in episodes of TV’s Enlightened, Portlandia and Sex & the City, and the films It’s Complicated (2009), Interview (2007) and John Wick...

Twilight Flourish #10, Lucy Moore, Abstract Painting, Landscape painting
Located in Deddington, GB
Twilight Flourish #10 by Lucy Moore [2022] Twilight Flourish #10 - An Original semi-abstract painting by Lucy Moore. Using my signature string grass technique I have created a semi-abstract twist to this midnight delight. Wychwood Art comments "We love Lucy Moore's original meadow paintings. They are full of colour and energy at affordable prices" Additional information: Original Acrylic on canvas Image size: H:60 cm x W:60 cm Complete Size of Unframed Work: H:60 cm x W:60 cm x D:1.9 cm Sold Unframed Please note that insitu images are purely an indication of how a piece may look. I have always enjoyed being creative but lacked the confidence to pursue a career as an artist, after many nudges from family and friends I decided to bite the bullet.I set out on my artists adventure in Feb 2014 I used my loft for a studio and spent every spare moment experimenting and creating. In Feb 2015 I signed up to several online galleries, every painting I sold boosted my confidence and I would spend hour daydreaming of becoming a full time artist. Since then I have come a long way and have been able to purchase my own studio, I now have a little sanctuary in my back garden. When I am not working as a part time book keeper, I can be found hidden away in my studio creating original artworks. I am inspired by the nature around me, from flourishing meadows to the crashing waves in the ocean, however I do like to add my own twist on things. I do love to work freely with abstract using colours and textures to guide me. For me Art is a necessity, I need to paint. The colours and images that swirl round my head daily I capture on canvas. I feel very privileged to have sold my work all over the world. My dream is to become a full time artist, With each painting I sell I take a step closer to achieving my goal. 13/08/2018 I took a leap of faith. Currently working as a full time artists. "If you give up on your dreams, what's left?" (Jim Carrey)

Abstract Expressionism Jay Milder Rhino Horn Painting Bold Colorful Pop Art
Located in Surfside, FL
This came from the collection of the Horace Richter Gallery These were done in the 1990's Hand signed and dated by the artist. Old Jaffa Jay Milder (born 1934) is an American artist and a figurative expressionist painter of the second generation New York School. Old Testament themes such as Jacob's Ladder and Noah’s Ark, and the Jewish mystical beliefs of the Kabbalah, are recurring themes in Milder’s paintings which are presented as archetypal images that recur in the basic karma, make-up and need of human nature. Internationally exhibited, Milder is included in the collections of many national and international museums. He has been the subject of two, recent retrospectives in Brazil in 2007 at the National Museum Brasilia and, in 2006, at the Museum of Modern Art, in Rio de Janeiro. He is renowned in Sao Paulo, one of the major international centers for street and public art, as a seminal influence on graffiti artists. Jay Milder was born in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1934. His grandparents, who came from the Ukraine, were descendants of the Hasidic mystic, Rabbi Nachman. As he listened to family stories his interest in spiritualism and mysticism increased, and became an important influence on his philosophy of life and art. Later, when he arrived in New York, he was drawn to the Theosophical Society and the teaching of Helena Blavatsky. In 1954 Milder visited Europe where he studied painting with André L’Hote, and sculpture with Ossip Zadkine. He spent much time studying at the Louvre Museum, and at the studio of Stanley Hayter. During his Paris years the paintings of the Jewish painter Chaim Soutine, primarily influenced him. Milder returned to the United States in 1956, and he began studying painting at the Chicago Art Institute. He exhibited with the Momentum Group, an alliance of artists who were particularly dedicated to the progression of figurative art and its global origins. In 1957, Milder spent the summer in Mexico for a summer where he exhibited in Puebla. That year he received the Mexican Government’s Honor Award for artists. In the summer of 1958, Milder studied with Hans Hofmann in Provincetown, Massachusetts. He exhibited his work at the Sun Gallery, with his contemporaries, including Mary Frank, Red Grooms, Bob Thompson...

In 1942, when the Nazis occupied France, he was separated from his family. His mother and brothers were killed in the Holocaust. After the war, he was transferred from his hiding place to the town of Andlis. He immigrated to Israel with Youth Aliyah in 1948. In 1956, he joined Kibbutz Ra'im. In 1957, he studied painting with Joseph Zaritsky, Avigdor Stematzky and Haim Kiewe. He also studied with Yehezekel Streichman at the Avni Institute. At the end of the 1950s, he went to Paris to continue his studies. In the 1980s, he joined the Radius artists cooperative. Abstract Expressionist Landscape Jay Milder Rhino Horn Painting American Pop Art
Located in Surfside, FL
This came from the collection of the Horace Richter Gallery, Old jaffa, Israel These were done in the 1990's Hand signed and dated. titled Old Jaffa. Jay Milder (born 1934) is an American artist and a figurative expressionist painter of the second generation New York School.
