Artist biography:
Tushar Sabale is an Indian born, British artist based in London. He mainly paints ‘en plein air’ in oil colours. His subject matter includes still life, landscape and figurative studies. He places his work between Contemporary Impressionism and Realism with some touches of Luminicsm. Previously working as Creative Designer, producing watches for Reebok and Timex, Tushar now paints full time. His experience also includes designing pieces for Hollywood movies like Maleficent, Snow White and Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows, while as a designer for a high-end jewellery brand in London. Tushar likes to experiment in his paintings and uses his knowledge of architecture and design to create visual effects that beckon for contemplation. He works in meticulous detail and executes with extraordinary technical skill on his subjects to transform them from the familiar to the fantastic. He is an elected member of the prestigious ‘The Wapping Group of Artists’, established in 1946 with only 25 full members at any given time. The group meets at selected locations along the River Thames to paint the changing views of London through the years. Tushar is also a proud member of ‘The British Plein Air Painters’, a group of professional artists based in the UK that share a passion for painting outdoors. The limit of the artists has been set to under 30. He is also the co-founder of ‘The London Plein Air Group’ that has more than 200 artist members who come together every month to paint in the city of London. In 2023, Tushar appeared on ‘Landscape Artist of the Year’- Series 8 as one of the Pod artists. It was filmed at Royal Ascot and aired on Sky Arts on 8 February 2023. He was one of the top 3 shortlisted artists. Tushar has often had a pleasure of being invited as a ‘Guest of Honour’ for the opening of exhibitions by several art societies and art groups. He has also been a judge for the ‘Woking Art Society’ annual show and will again be on the judging panel at the upcoming ‘Chelsea Art Society’ Paintout and the ‘Art in the city’ Gloucester this year. Tushar has exhibited his works in Mall Galleries for the Federation of British Artists at The NEAC (New English Art Club) and RSMA (Royal Society of Marine Artists).
“As a Nature lover, I love everything that en plein air painting experience brings along with it. I love the fact that when I am painting pleinair, I am connected to my subject, not just visually but also physically and emotionally. It is this emotion that I like to capture in all of my paintings. For me, capturing the light and colours, even on a grey day, is everything. However, I do enjoy the challenges of a bright sunny day and the spontaneity it brings to my work, whether it is through chasing winter sunshine, a rising tide or the varying colours in a twilight sky. I seek to capture all this and more in my work. A bit of architectural and manmade elements, overlapping the landscapes, fascinate me and I like depicting them to celebrate the human interference with nature. These structures also add certain stability to the otherwise moving and changing elements of nature. My work is constantly evolving and I do seek to get more spontaneous as I move forward, and work with ‘Less is More’ approach with my brushes and palette.” – Tushar Sabale

- Vermillion at Lee's Ferry ( Plein Air Landscape painting sky blue terracotta)By Jane ChapinLocated in Cody, WYThis is a 'Plein Air" landscape Painting by Jane Chapin as seen in the viewing room exhibition on Silas VON MORISSE GALLERY. “Plein-Air” is the French expression to describe the act of painting in situ within the landscape, capturing the ever changing weather and light with tonal qualities, colour, loose brushwork and softness of form... The practice of “Plein Air Painting” goes back for centuries but was truly made into an art form by the French Impressionists such as Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, Alfred Sisley, and Pierre-Auguste Renoir who were advocating of plein air painting. Much of their work was done outdoors in the diffuse light of a large white umbrella. Another major proponent of Plein Air was Jean Baptiste Camille Corot whom Claude Monet considered as “The only One Master here”. Corot provides a transition from the sharp academic style that ruled in his day with focus on the natural world and the lyrical expressiveness of one's work. With her "Plein Air Paintings", Jane Chapin is part of one of the largest art movements in history. Her paintings carry human emotions. We can read her moods and feelings with places that carry deep remembrances for the artist that go beyond the descriptive. "My paintings grow from observing and interpretating light as it emerges from, surrounds and reflects on everyday people and scenes. They seek to remind us of the beauty of our common surroundings, regardless of where we are." - Jane Chapin Jane Chapin Painting the Land of the Free...Category
