A richly coloured mid-century modernist landscape composition, painted in oil onto board and dated 1944.
Featuring expressionist characteristics, this composition is made of bold, earthy colours and broad, distinct brushwork across the board. A rural landscape is the focus of the artist’s attention, but the artist has moved away from naturalistic colours and has instead used a contrast of colours and multidirectional brushwork to create depth and texture. The paint has been generously applied and is very textured, imbuing the painting with a wonderful sense of dynamism and vitality.
This oil on board is housed in a complementary deep profile wood frame with multiple ridges. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
