1969 Vintage Mid-Century Expressive Street Scene Oil Painting - Forest Houses

1969

About the Item

FOREST HOUSES Size: 40 x 56 cm (including frame) Oil on Panel An expressive semi-abstract modernist composition, executed in oil onto board and dated 1969. A figure dressed in blue and a hat is strolling leisurely on an inviting pathway that leads to charming houses nestled in a forest landscape teeming with lush greenery. The artist has selected a rich and muted colour palette, and has uniquely highlighted the silhouettes of the respective forms in blue outlines. Loose and unrestrained brushstrokes fill the surface, capturing the vitality of the foliage and imbuing the scene with dynamism. This oil on panel is housed in a complementary gilt frame. Both the frame and painting are in excellent vintage condition. Please note all of the artworks we sell are vintage and unless otherwise stated, their condition is typical for their age. This can sometimes include slight changes in colour, yellowing to the varnish, and minor bumps and bruises. We have tried to include as many close-up photos as possible. Should you need more photos or wish to ask us more questions regarding an item's condition, feel free to contact us, we are always happy to help.

  • Contemporary Abstract Seascape Framed Oil Painting - Summer Abstraction
    Located in Bristol, GB
SUMMER ABSTRACTION Size: 65.5 x 65.5 cm (including frame) Oil on board A very atmospheric abstract coastal scape painting, executed in oil onto board by contemporary British artist Ian Mood. Inspired by coastlines, this expansive abstract painting captures the essence of sea, sky and rain, and has a meditative quality. There is a sense of being awash – awash by colour, by nature, by the air, and by the sea. As our eyes move across the painting, the movement of the brushstrokes and the style of the drips and colour wash absorb our attention and settle our mind. This oil on board is housed in a complementary light blue frame with an inner white window that pairs wonderfully with the painting. Both painting and frame are in excellent condition. About the artist: Ian Mood is a contemporary artist with an international reputation, having shown work with Saatchi London, Brooklyn Art Library, Battersea Art Fair & Manchester Art Fair – as well as being represented by numerous established galleries in the UK and US. He recently held his first solo show in New York. In 2019, he collaborated as artist in residence with The National Theatre (Madness of George III with Mark Gatiss) and The Royal Exchange Manchester (Mother Courage with Julie Hesmondhalgh). Ian is a member of Manchester Academy of Fine Arts, Society Of Staffordshire Artists and the Artist Association of Nantucket (USA) where he regularly lectures as part of their summer arts programme. He was awarded the Artists Association of Nantucket Frank Swift Chase...

    Located in Bristol, GB
URBAN LANDSCAPE Size: 38.5 x 53.5 cm (including frame) Oil on board A brilliantly executed semi- abstract landscape composition, painted in oil onto board by contemporary British artist Ian Mood. The artist works in broad, expressive strokes, filling in the urban scene with a cacophony of colour. We see areas of the canvas as well as the artist’s outlines, giving it a very raw quality, emphasising the uncompromising nature of the urban landscape. This oil on board is housed in a complementary light blue frame with an inner white window that pairs wonderfully with the painting. Both painting and frame are in excellent condition. • "Copse", oil painting, landscape, abstract, trees, field, sky, light, copper
    Located in Toronto, Ontario
"Copse" is an oil painting with chalk and graphite on wood panel, and measures 16" high by 12" wide. It is finished with a clear resin across the surface, lending the artwork a particular warmth and liquidity that is rare and lovely to behold. Typical of the artist, the painting is a mystery despite its apparent simplicity – the landscape with trees on the horizon, the wide full sky bearing down with clouds and light. The picture surface is very interesting – drawn lines and painterly brushstrokes to be sure, but note the speed and swift conviction of those brushstrokes. All of it held, as if in time, by the resin layer acting as a lens to both transmit this picture and admit light to the picture. A true artifact. From Will Hudson...

  • Visione Mistica, original 36x48 contemporary landscape
    By Dmitri Wright
    Located in Spring Lake, NJ
Visione Mistica, Mystical Vision, is an introspective, contemporary, original oil painting reminiscent of the 1960s, resplendent with explosive colors and imagery that commands both attention and consideration. The 36x48 scale of the dynamic landscape, combined with the magical reds, could carry any neutral room that's calling for a pop of joy and color! The artist has gallery wrapped this contemporary work of art on a stretcher with a 1.5" return to keep a transitional, open feeling throughout the painting. Alternately, it could be framed if you prefer a larger overall size for your space. Artist Dmitri Wright is the Director of the Weir Farm National Historic Site Art Academy where he teaches art in addition to teaching at the venerable Florence Griswold...
