Naples during the Napoleonic occupation, oil on canvas painting, circa 1810

About the Item

Neapolitan school, circa 1810 Vessels on the key side at Naples during the Napoleonic occupation Oil on canvas 11.1/4 x 16.7/8 in. (28.1/2 x 43.2 cm.) It is unclear whether this work was painted by an Italian or a French hand though it remains a charmingly naïve depiction from a small window in time when napoleon occupied Naples from 1806. It is clear to see the lines of Vesuvius on the right hand side. And a variety of military men patrolling the key with the flag of France hoisted on the battlements.
