About the Item
Framed oil on canvas "Afternoon on the Veranda" by Laurel Daniel. Unframed 18" x 24"
Laurel Daniel was born in 1956 in Racine, Wisconsin, and graduated with a studio art degree in 1979 from Wheaton College in Illinois. After almost 20 years in the graphic design business, she returned to oil painting in 1999 and has never stopped. Laurel lives and paints full time in Austin, Texas.
Daniel shares her joy of painting with budding artists of all ages through workshops in Austin, Texas and St. Simons Island, Georgia. She also touches countless students all over the world with her two oil painting videos available through Liliedahl Art Instruction Videos.
Daniel is a Signature Member of the American Women Artists, Signature Member of the Outdoor Painters Society, member and past president of Plein Air Austin and an Associate Member of the Oil Painters of America. Laurel’s work is in many private and corporate collections; and has been published in Southwest Art Magazine, PleinAir Magazine, American Art Collector Magazine and International Artist Magazine.

Laurel Daniel
With a degree in studio art and 19 years in the graphic design business, Laurel now paints full-time and teaches at The Contemporary Austin Art School. She is an avid plein air painter and says, "Plein air painting is a huge part of my process - it feeds, motivates, and is the source for studio work. It is an excuse to be outside, experiencing nature firsthand. The whole process is irresistible to me." "My lifelong love for nature inspires me to contemplate the landscape. As a plein air painter, I begin outside, working quickly to discern the shifting patterns of shadows and light. Back in studio, I try to paint with the same closely-observed spontaneity. Capturing a moment in time is an impossible task, but for me, an endlessly compelling one." - Daniel
