About the Item

This captivating mixed-media piece by Laurie Barmore harmonizes acrylic paint with collage elements to create a vibrant and dynamic composition. Dominated by shades of blue, white, and yellow, along with a dark depth, the painting captures the emotional release of song. Embedded within the artwork are collaged fragments, featuring the word "sing", and fragments of sheet music, adding layers of texture and meaning. These collage elements evoke the power and beauty of the human voice, celebrating the act of singing as an expression of the soul. From the artist: "It is these immaterial and internal ideas and feelings that I explore in my paintings. Creating is about paying attention to noticing the particular. I find my inspiration in poetry, nature, and the universal rhythms of life. I love that “things” can be metaphors for greater truths. I’m intrigued by the form, line, and patterns found in nature and of the story they tell. Not the obvious one that defines an object, but the narrative that portrays the intangible, the veiled, the mysterious. The way, for example, peeling bark tells me not merely about the tree or the nature of the bark but also about revelation, vulnerability, and transparency. As such, my paintings are about life; a blending of the external and internal, matter and spirit, observation and response."
