The visual arts have always been influenced by music, and vice versa. Kandinsky’s art represents the most ambitious, the most literal attempt to merge art and music. All my jazz paintings are the avant-garde projects of merging painting with music. I have always been very impressed by jazz music, it makes me feel good. Jazz is a kind of music in which improvisation is typically an important part. In most jazz performances, players play solos which they make up on the spot, which requires considerable skill and this music leads my hand with brush and colour in the creation of my paintings.
