About the Item

My interest is to convey elements of the classical arcadian landscape paintings of the 17th and 18th century, inviting the viewer to reflect again at the sublime landscape of the past, in relation to the negative impact of human’s activity on the planet since. My reference comes originally from living for many years by the River Thames and more recently from my long walks, through the woods, following a river that periodically leads out onto several lakes along the way. The first and last light, in particular, transform these private little places into magical havens, where the trees meet the water, as the sun rises or dips behind. It's my constant effort and passion to try and capture this exquisite, elusive and vaporous light, set in a sublime landscape. Oil Paint on Linen 108 H x 108 W x 4 D cm (42.52 x 42.52 x 1.57 in) Sold framed Louise Fairchild gained a Fine Art (BA Hons) Degree at Reading University, after a Foundation Year at Sheffield Art College, and worked as an illustrator and artist worldwide for many years. Commissions in this period include British Airways, Barclays Bank PLC, The Home Office, Fortnum and Mason, Bloomsbury Publishing, Boots the Chemist, Blass Wine Estates, Random House Publishing, Woolwich Building Society and Marks and Spencer PLC. She also had numerous portrait commissions for the board of directors of companies such as Sainsburys Plc, Fidelity Investments International and PriceWaterhouseCoopers, as well as a monthly commissioned portrait of a prominent figure in business or government for the CBI magazine. In 2009 she returned to Fine Art full time.

Helmut Gransow Landscape w/House & Barn "Springtime Reflections No. I"
Located in Detroit, MI
SALE ONE WEEK ONLY “Springtown Reflections No. I” depicts the moment of change in the weather moving from harsh winter to the first warming days of spring melting the snow. The title suggests a moment to pause in farm life before the coming spring planting and also suggests a time of mental reflection on life and work. The puddles of melting snow reflect the buildings in the scene. The muted colors and slightly off kilter structures cause the buildings to appear worn but sturdy, a soft idyllic scene of rural life. Park Spring (Impressionistic Figurative Painting of Figures in a Park Landscape)
By William Clutz
Located in Hudson, NY
Modern impressionist style figurative painting of a family in a colorful park landscape “Park Spring” painted by William Clutz in 1996 60 x 50 inches in a natural wood floater frame Wire backing, signed lower right This figurative oil on canvas painting was made in 1996 by William Clutz as part of a series of works called "Crossings". These paintings were a study of NYC dwellers engaging in the simple, daily activity of crossing the street. In this piece, Clutz captures a joyful moment of a mother and father walking in a sunlit park landscape with their young child. Bright sunlight radiates through lush fall foliage and fills the scene with a soft orange light. With broad, expressionistic brushstrokes, he discovers the extraordinary in the ordinary, by emphasizing the effects of sunlight on the human form. The painting is in excellent condition and is framed in a natural wood floater frame. More about the artist: In New York in the early 50's and 60's, abstract expressionism was the orthodox approach to art at the time. However, Clutz was committed to his personal style that focused on abstracted human figures within urban tableaux. Working in a context of artists who challenged abstract expressionism's popularity in New York, Clutz established himself as a significant proponent of abstract figuration. His paintings focus on human figures within the urban environment, often exposing the transfiguration of his subjects as they travel through the complex light of city streets or summer parks, as shown in two of his early works. Clutz's interest in working from direct observation of urban life was influenced by a long-standing interest in German Expressionism, as well as artists like Henri Matisse, Arshile Gorky, and Nicholas De Stael...
