'Re-inacting Picasso', Figurative, Nude painting inspired by Picasso's paintings. Beautiful composition of earthy tones and reds, and oranges.
Ghislaine was born in Eccles and studied Fine Art at Newcastle University. She lived in London and Paris before moving back to her native North-West with her husband, the art historian Michael Howard, making their home in Glossop in the Peak District. She paints the entire range of human experience, the embrace of lovers, the joys and anxieties of parenthood, and the inevitable move towards the frailty of old age. She delights equally in the strength of human contact and the silent eloquence of the single figure, seen in movement or repose. All Ghislaine's paintings spring from her own experience, mediated by her love of art, past and present. They tell the common concerns of our shared journey through life transfigured by her intense engagement with her materials. She relishes the physicality and emotional power that comes about when line, form and colour collide, hence the title of her recent publication, written with Michael; Ghislaine Howard: the Human Touch. Ghislaine is known as painter of powerful and expressive means, whose work charts and interprets our shared experience. She was named Woman of the Year in 2008 for her contribution to art and society. She first came to public attention with her ground breaking exhibition concerning pregnancy and birth, the first of its kind, at Manchester City Art Gallery, 'A Shared Experience' the exhibition attracted much critical acclaim.

When she found out who her slave was, she married him. Falling for his mistress and made effeminate by the luxury of court life, the former hero allowed himself to become the laughing stock of the court. He dressed in women's clothes, spun wool and did other women's work, whereas Omphale wore his lion's skin and carried a wooden club. When the time of punishment was over, the hero realised his delusion and left Omphale. So far, the painting could not be clearly assigned to an artist. Nevertheless, it impresses with its fluid and convincing painting, whose colourfulness and conception are reminiscent of the Prague School around Bartholomäus Spranger. This work follows an engraving and an etching made by Michel Dorigny in 1643 after a design by Simon Vouet. It shows the same scene but the print differs in minor details from the present painting (see e.g. the head of the lion) and the treatment of the faces seems to be painted more detailed and refined.
