This piece, "Age of Innocence", is striking for its juxtaposition of innocence and mystery, achieved through the interplay of a masked face and emotive brushwork. The circular canvas mirrors the subject’s face, drawing attention to the central figure and reinforcing a sense of intimacy and focus. The round shape also evokes completeness and continuity, adding layers to the idea of "age" and its cyclical nature. • The symmetrical placement of the face within the circle creates a sense of balance, while the dynamic, flowing brushstrokes surrounding the figure add movement and energy. The intricate black mask is the painting's focal point. Its ornate design conveys a sense of formality and theatricality, hinting at themes of concealment, identity, or societal roles. The dripping paint from the mask softens its rigidity and adds an emotional, almost melancholic quality, suggesting vulnerability beneath the facade. The subdued, pale green and yellow tones contrast with the stark black of the mask and the rich red of the lips. This palette creates a tension between liveliness (yellow) and shadow (black), while the red lips hint at sensuality and human warmth. The pale, almost ghostly green adds an otherworldly quality, suggesting innocence, fragility, or even a dreamlike state. The painterly, loose strokes surrounding the face add depth and a sense of movement. They seem intentionally unfinished, emphasizing raw emotion over technical precision. The drips from the mask suggest impermanence or the breakdown of barriers, as though the mask is dissolving or crying, symbolizing the transient nature of identity or innocence. The light on the face is softly diffused, blending into the background and giving the painting an ethereal quality. The shadows within the mask’s design create a striking contrast, emphasizing the idea of duality—what is hidden versus what is revealed. The title, Age of Innocence, suggests a reflection on purity or naivety. The mask complicates this theme, introducing an element of disguise. This raises questions about the coexistence of innocence and deception: Is innocence protected by masks, or is it eroded by the need to wear them? The dripping paint implies the fragility of identity and the inevitability of change. The mask symbolizes a societal or personal construct, and its "melting" suggests the inability to maintain such constructs indefinitely. The ornate mask evokes the world of theater or masquerade balls, where roles are performed, and identities are fluid. This aligns with themes of how innocence might be performed or preserved in specific contexts. Similar to the fragmented nudes in earlier works, this painting explores the complexity of identity. However, the focus here shifts to the emotional and psychological layers of concealment. While the Neo-Mythology works deal with classical references, Age of Innocence is more contemporary and introspective, focusing on the individual rather than collective or historical narratives. The loose, expressive brushwork and interplay of abstraction and realism are consistent with the artist's style, but the focus on a single subject marks a more intimate approach. Age of Innocence is a compelling exploration of identity, vulnerability, and the tension between what is concealed and revealed. Its bold use of the mask as a symbol, combined with the expressive brushwork and subdued palette, creates a piece that is both visually arresting and emotionally evocative. It invites viewers to reflect on their own "masks" and the roles they perform in life. Artist Statement "I started by painting interiors, being interested in space and perspective through my studies. These scenes evolved, when I added the human figure. I focused more on the human figure and its relation to the background. The human figure is more present than ever in my paintings now. As a woman artist I’ve been preoccupied with the female form and its imagery. One of my goals was to capture the solitary moments and the nude’s relation to the surrounding space. My interest turned from depicting the space to rendering the atmosphere and the scene as a whole, the feeling a woman adds to the environment: warmth, desire, joy, a feeling of power and control, or the opposite – sadness, despair. Here is a collection of figurative paintings, exploring the nudes in interior spaces, seeing the nudes from my perspective, as a woman artist, considering the physical and spiritual realities of a woman’s body, in a new level of intimacy. My paintings are the opposite of objectifying a woman’s or a man’s anatomy. Painted works, featuring female nudes and a also men nudes, in a reversal of the male-artist/female-muse pattern, validate the feminine experience, defining myself through it. I was interested in how one experiences the body in a sensual form, and later focused on my own body, as I experience it myself, looking into the mirror and reconnecting. My work challenges the tradition of the nude by capturing my point of view, the gaze of a female painter, by using photography, drawings, sketches, and painting on canvas, for, both physical and psychological exploration. My art tries to create a visual language for emotion, beauty, feelings of intimacy and in the same time autonomy, captured with paint and vivid colors. My intense interest in colour and the gestures of the brush strokes are the means I see and convey the subjects in space, as living, passionate beings."
