About the Item

Whether they are symbols, dreams or marks of the life of each of us. The artist's work often features heads, floating bodies, trees, dollar signs, cars, laurel branches, and symbolic elements that denounce the cruelties of our borders. Almo executes his drawings intuitively in these acrylic paintings, aiming for a state of ' semi-trance' as he himself defines his process. Almo wonders about his identity, the countries he has lived in, his daily routine and how he creates himself. An outsider who has made the world his home, skin, and citizenship, and through his artwork, he safeguards it in an attempt to explore the mysteries that pass through. Whether they are symbols, dreams or marks of the life of each of us. Overall size: 60 H cm x 100 W cm. Individual size: 60 H cm x 50 W cm.

Double Vision (cryptography series)

Located in New York, NY
Abstract. Vibrant. Painting. About the Artist: "I contemplate every color, mark, and placement of the line to formulate what I call rhythmic velocities: relationships of color and motion that give life to the composition, creating a heartbeat. I am interested in the duality of math and design: through repetition, a line made of color becomes a rhythmic pattern. This concept is found when composing music, organic landscapes and architectural structures. By referencing these sources, my abstractions transcend their formal components, reaching beyond a minimalist canon. My work is composed of hard edges and thin lines set against an abstract field or a pictorial space. Each color has a quickness that is relative to the colors surrounding it; this gives my paintings visual movement and dislocates the viewer. Through linear and geometric forms, my paintings explore design and mathematical concepts found broadly throughout culture. They are improvised from a wide range of sources such as my conversations with scholars in various fields of music, architecture and engineering, my life experiences and travels." Duality Series 2, Original Abstract Painting, 2021
Located in Boston, MA
Artist Commentary: This Series began after six months of quarantine due to the Covid 19 pandemic. I often check-in with my (out of state) parents; they are both retired and generally have kept themselves busy during this difficult time. I asked what they are doing for fun....My Dad said a 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle was his vice of the week. I start thinking of puzzle pieces-- how they are connected and how each piece has a purpose to complete a picture. What is my purpose during this pandemic? To make art that points to something beyond ourselves, beyond isolation, beyond pandemics. Active Promotional Offer: Get additional discounts if you purchase multiple paintings by Oi Fortin...
