Noel Laura Nisbet Pre-Raphaelite Style Painting of Mothers and Babies in WWII1941
1941
About the Item
Babies are falling from the sky and not bombs. British female artist and illustrator Noel Laura Nisbet makes a passionate twist to the reality of England being bombed by Germany during World War 2. This is an emotional and complex narrative painting borne out of fear and hope. Nisbet even paints a stork in the shape of a bomber with babies on it. The two central figures are a self-portrait. The work is finely detailed with dandelions and a packed figure group. Stylistically, the work is somewhat of a mix between the British Pre-Raphaelites and the Italian Renaissance painters. Signed and dated 1941 lower right. Babies falling from the sky and not bombs. Signed and dated 1941 lower right. Framed dimension 32 x 28
