The End of the Collection explores a cycle many know too well — the early pursuit of wealth, power, and control. A belief, often formed in youth, that every dollar is a marker of success. But when that drive goes unexamined, it becomes a loop. You can be 80 and still caught in the same chase you started at 20.
Scrooge McDuck, despite all he’s accumulated, remains emotionally unchanged — still guarding, still counting, still measuring his worth in gold. The stinginess isn’t just financial; it’s emotional. A refusal to let go, to feel, to evolve.
Even in his more sympathetic portrayals — the wise, grandfatherly figure from Disney lore — the vault is never far away. The smile may soften, the lessons may flow, but the core remains: a life defined by accumulation. He clings to coins the way others might cling to meaning.
And yet, this painting doesn’t judge him. It doesn’t mock his hunger or diminish his history. It holds up a mirror — not just to Scrooge, but to all of us. It invites reflection, not condemnation.
