Edoardo Gordigiani
Portrait of a Doctor with a Microscope.

About the Item

Portrait of a Doctor with a Microscope Artist: Eduardo Gordigiani (Italy, 1866-1961) Date: Approximately 1940 Medium: Oil on canvas Signature: Signed in the upper right corner Dimensions: H 65 cm x W 53 cm Description: This captivating portrait depicts a doctor seated at his desk with a microscope, symbolizing his profession and intellectual pursuits. Painted in a Post-Impressionist style, the artwork is characterized by its bold contrasts and vivid, almost surreal use of color. The doctor's white coat sharply contrasts with the brilliant red background, while his tie in blue, white, and red adds an original chromatic accent that enlivens the composition. A blue-cut crystal vase holding red carnations introduces a refined decorative element that harmonizes with the bold tones of the background. The interplay of shadows and the delicate nuances of the flesh tones, with subtle lilac accents, reveal Gordigiani's painterly sensitivity. The artist masterfully combines these contrasting colors to create a work that is both intimate and visually striking. Condition: Good, with minor signs of age consistent with the period. Provenance: private collection.

Ca. 1820 Portrait of a Woman. Léon Cogniet (1794-1880, Paris), attributed. French school of 19th century. Tecnicque: oils on canvas. Dimensions: 70cm x 61cm 20th century wooden frame. Old attribution to Léon Cogniet (1794-1880, Paris) is inscribed on the wooden frame. Portrait of the restoration period, post Napoleonic wars. Stylistically the painting is found in the transition period from the late Empire period to the beginning of Romanticism. The new artistic trends can be seen in the increased naturalism, representation of the landscape/nature, in the contrasts, and in a greater emotionality of the person represented. Detailed but loose is the way to describe the winter dress...

Portrait of Raimondo di Montecuccoli in armor with a marshal's staff. Circa 1660
Located in Firenze, IT
Portrait of Raimondo di Montecuccoli in armor with a marshal's staff. Dutch School. Oil on canvas Dutch School. Circle of Peter Nason (Amsterdam, 1612 - 1690 The Hague). Portrait of a military commander in armor with a marshal's staff. In the portrait of the illustrious general Raimondo Montecuccoli, it can be observed that he still appears without the Order of the Golden Toson. This detail suggests that the portrait could be dated before 1664. Raimondo Montecuccoli was a famous general and military strategist of the 17th century in the service of the Habsburg Empire. Born in 1609 in Italy, Montecuccoli fought in numerous European wars, distinguishing himself for his tactical and strategic abilities. He is best known for his victories during the Thirty Years' War and the war against the Turks. Montecuccoli is also remembered for his writings on military theory, which influenced subsequent generations of commanders. He died in 1680. Montecuccoli came from a noble Italian family but chose to pursue a military career in the service of the Habsburg Empire. He studied in Vienna and fought in numerous battles and military campaigns, earning the trust of Emperor Leopold I. Montecuccoli was known for his discipline, his ability to adapt to situations on the battlefield, and his skill in leading troops with cunning and determination. Montecuccoli fought in many significant battles during the Thirty Years' War and the wars against the Turks. Some of his most famous battles include the Battle of Lens in 1648, where he achieved a decisive victory against French forces, and the Battle of Vezekény in 1664, where he defeated the Ottoman army. He faced adversaries such as the renowned French general Turenne and the great Turkish commander Kara Mustafa...
