About the Item
On one hot June day, a beautiful Ethiopian girl was playing in Monahov's studio with a sparkling glass prism, watching objects refracted in the room and outside the window.. and at some point she let a rainbow down the walls, then on the paintings, then on her hand.. and, looking at the resulting colors, she muttered thoughtfully:
- Here I am purple.. blue.. now white, yellow, red and black - I am all the earthly races put together on one hand, why the hell are they going crazy for such foolishness? It's just a refraction of light, nothing more.
On that day, instagram was colored with the same black squares BLM and then Evgeniy Monahov decided to paint the rainbow in a black square, a black rainbow as in the old song by St.Vincent:
There's a black rainbow above my house
Match the curtains and the floor
I think I'm glass I think I'm breaking it
Wrecking ball outside the door

In 2021 Evgeniy Monahov won 5 awards at once in the 15th International ARC Salon Competition including the prestigious William Bouguereau Award. In addition, his painting "Girl with a Gun" was illustrated in the Lunar Codex, a cultural archive of contemporary works, launching on the Nova-C Lunar Lander to the Moon, to be preserved for posterity.
In July 2021 at hosted by Sotheby's auction Contemporary Realism: Important 21st Century Works his painting "Passion for Color" was sold for $38,000, more than doubling the maximum estimated price.
Evgeniy Monahov has become recognized by the Art Renewal Center as an ARC Living Master, (ARCLM).
