Born 1857 in Avellaneda, Argentina, although of parents born in the Basque Country.
He travels to Europe and first settles in Bayonne where he studies at the Julian Academy.
Later he moved to Paris and the Chamber of Deputies of Buenos Aires granted him a scholarship to study at the School of Fine Arts.
He has executed works of great quality, portraits, landscapes and contemporary themes that were cut short by his early death at the age of 37 in Argentina, in 1894.
This painting entitled "Reflection", is a delicate work of precise and thorough brushstroke, with a soft chromaticism that evokes a bit of melancholy, very consistent with the character of the author. The landscape of the background envelops and caresses that thoughtful and dreamy youth. The little dog next to her gives an intimate and close character.
It was probably painted on his return to Argentina, when he definitely left Paris after a decade.
There is a great representation of his work in the Museum of Fine Arts of Buenos Aires.

He played an essential role in the evolution of women's fashion of his time. He designed numerous dresses, hats and accessories for famous designers such as Paul Poiret and Henry Marque It goes down in history as the architect of a new type of woman, thin, with an elegant air, always with style, with unusual elongated necks, with impressive slanted eyes, that seem to look at the world in amazement, perhaps because they express a feeling of freedom towards Society and its norms. With these paintings of women, he showed the world the true French, elegant, beautiful and with a gooseneck. In 1914 he won the Rome Prize.
