Félix Pescador y Saldana
The blue bow: a little boy with tousled hair naturalistic portrait oil painting

ca 1860

About the Item

This sweet little boy sits quietly like a well brought up child, but you can see in his eyes how much he likes to run and play. In this sensitive portrait painted in circa 1860 by Félix Pescador we see a real lively kid, not a miniature adult. Félix PESCADOR y SALDAÑA was born in 1836 in Zaragoza as the son of the painter Mariano Pescador y Escárate. He studied at the Fine Arts Academy in Madrid, the Escuela Especial, as well as with Léon Bonnat in Paris. As a still extremely young artist during his time in France, he was awarded a silver medal at the Lille competition. Our painting dates from this period. At the National Exhibition held in Madrid in 1881 Félix Pescador presented The Rebel Angel, a large canvas. In those held in Paris in previous years he had presented portraits, mythological and genre scenes. It is clear that portraiture held a special place in the artist's heart - Pecador has a natural talent for showing the inner essence of his subject. Our painting measures 46 x 38 cm for the canvas alone. It is signed at the upper right. It is presented in its original period frame
