About the Item

Arwork sold with frame (81.5 x 60.5 x 7.5 cm) Konstantin Stoitzner (1863–1933) was an Austrian painter renowned for his landscapes, genre scenes, portraits, and still lifes. Born in Moravský Chrostau (now Chrastavec, Czech Republic), he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under August Eisenmenger and Christian Griepenkerl. From 1914 to 1923, he led the Austrian Artists' Association (Österreichischer Künstlerbund), contributing significantly to the country's artistic community. Stoitzner's early works featured genre scenes, portraits, and floral still lifes. Around 1900, he shifted focus to landscape painting, capturing scenes from the Alps, Burgenland, Moravia, East Frisia, and the Lüneburg Heath. His style combined naturalistic detail with a romantic sensibility. He received several honors during his career, including the Austrian State Prize in 1909 for his painting Der untere Ortnergletscher, the Honorary Prize of the City of Vienna in 1915, and the Honorary Prize of the Lower Austrian State Committee in 1917. Stoitzner came from a family of artists; his brothers Rudolf and Karl Siegfried Stoitzner were painters, as were his sons Josef and Walter Gottfried Stoitzner. He passed away in Vienna in 1933 and was buried at the Vienna Central Cemetery.
