About the Item

This captivating oil portrait presents the head of an African-American woman set against a green background. Her gaze is steady and introspective, eyes deep with emotion and quiet strength. The artist has rendered her natural hair with expressive brushstrokes, giving it texture and presence. Her skin glows with warm, earthy tones, and subtle highlights on her cheekbones and forehead reveal the care given to light and form. The green backdrop, both vivid and serene, creates a striking contrast that draws focus entirely to her features—full lips, poised expression, and thoughtful eyes. Though minimalist in composition, the portrait is powerful in its intimacy, celebrating individuality and silent resilience. It invites contemplation and commands attention through its simplicity and grace. Marina Skepner lives and works in Bonn, Germany. She was born in Moscow, studied at Surikov State Art Institute in Moscow and the Montenegrin Art Academy, majoring in painting. She worked at the Dukley Art Residence by European Art Community and Dukley Summer School in Montenegro in 2015 and 2016. The artist’s work often tackles the theme of childhood, the problem of understanding the essence of time, the particular perception and comprehension of history. Marina is a member of the Bonn Union of Artists (BBK Bonn, Rhein-Sieg) and GEDOK-Bonn. Marina has had many personal exhibitions and participated in numerous collective projects in Germany, Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, Ukraine, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro. Her works have been acquired for the collections of Marat Gelman, Juan Puntes (WhiteBox, New York), Giampaolo Abbondio (PAKS Galery, Milan), and others. As a contemporary artist, Marina use her excellent craftsmanship to work in different techniques: painting, drawing, collage, installation. Her works are marked with flawless technique and original ideas. The team of curators of the Art-S-Gallery.
