GILLET Numa François (1868- 1940)
French 19th-20th century
Painter, ceramist, architect designer
Symbolist movement
Numa François Gillet (born 1868, Bordeaux) was a French painter who was a member of the Salon des Artistes Français where he exhibited hors concours. He was also made a Chevalier of the Légion d'honneur. He often worked with his close friend Armand Point.
Armand Point (23 March 1860– February 1932) was a French painter, engraver and designer who was associated with the Symbolist movement
Symbolism was a late nineteenth-century art movement of French, Russian and Belgian origin in poetry and other arts. In literature, the style had its beginnings with the publication Les Fleurs du mal (The Flowers of Evil, 1857) by Charles Baudelaire. The works of Edgar Allan Poe, which Baudelaire admired greatly and translated into French, were a significant influence and the source of many stock tropes and images.

Brenda Zlamany, Goat Head #2, 1990, Oil Paint, Panel
By Brenda Zlamany
Located in Darien, CT
The place of the painted portrait in the postphotography, postmodern age is ever-changing. In portrait painting, a connection between the artist and the subject is created by the act of building an image stroke by stroke. This connection is unusual (and perhaps longed for) in a time of virtual reality and high-speed, mediated experience. There is much to be explored in the question of who is portrayed and how.
Brenda Zlamany is interested in the multifaceted nature of portraiture in the digital age. By combining painting, performance, interactivity, photography, a conceptual frame, and a digital presentation, she seeks to challenge schisms in artistic as well as social understanding.
Brenda Zlamany is a painter who lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. Since 1982 her work has appeared in over a dozen solo exhibitions and many group shows in the United States, Europe, and Asia. Museums that have exhibited her work include the Museum of Contemporary Art, Taipei; the National Portrait Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution; the National Museum, Gdansk; and Museum voor Schone Kunsten, Ghent. Her work has been reviewed in Artforum, Art in America, Flash Art, the New Yorker, the New York Times, and elsewhere and is held in the collections of the Cincinnati Art Museum; Deutsche Bank; the Museum of Modern Art, Houston; the Neuberger Museum of Art; the Virginia Museum of Fine Art; and the World Bank. She has received portrait commissions from the World Bank, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and other institutions. Zlamany has collaborated with authors and editors of the New York Times Magazine on several commissions, including an image of Marian Anderson...

"First words to two women" by Gilbert Pauli - Oil on canvas
By Gilbert Pauli
Located in Geneva, CH
Born in 1944 in the canton of Fribourg, Gilbert Pauli currently lives in Geneva, where he devotes himself to painting and sculpture, a passion he developed from his childhood. His favorite theme is the dialogue between the human being and his creator.
Gilbert Pauli's messages are universal, without any racial, religious or even cultural reference, with the sole purpose of love for man.
From 1986, he worked relentlessly and in a self-taught way to discover the different painting and sculpture techniques: first gouache, followed by dry pastel. These lead him to watercolor, and oil, through charcoal and acrylic.
He died in Geneva in 2020 and the Gijsel Gallery...
