About the Item
Important, wonderful painting signed by the famous Italian artist Orazio Amato
Portrait of young woman with landscape, oil on canvas signed
This artwork, never before on the market, comes from an important private collection and is beautified by an impressive antique frame in gilded wood, in almost perfect condition.
Every item of our Gallery, upon request, is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by Sabrina Egidi official Expert in Italian furniture for the Chamber of Commerce of Rome and for the Rome Civil Courts.
Orazio Amato was born in Anticoli Corrado.
His father, a pharmacist, had a guesthouse in the village where he hosted the artists who stayed there.
Orazio established a direct and daily relationship with them, treasuring their advice and teachings.
His first works date back to 1896 but it was not until 1910 that he presented himself to the public at the LXXX International Exhibition of Fine Arts organised by the Society of Amateurs and Connoisseurs of Fine Arts.
He moved to Rome and attended the academy of the Circolo Artistico in Via Margutta.
In May 1915, he was called up for war, but despite his military commitments, he did not abandon his painting activities.
In 1920 he founded the convivial “Società della Pippa” with some artist friends.
In 1921 he took part in the first Roman Biennale and in the same year he founded the Orti Sallustiani Art School in Rome with Felice Carena and Attilio Selva, attended by students such as Capogrossi, Cavalli and Pirandello.
He took part in several group exhibitions and in 1924 inaugurated his first solo exhibition at the Stuard hall in Via Veneto.
He was appointed secretary of the Via Margutta Artistic Association, a position he held until 1933.
He exhibited at eight editions of the Venice Biennale from 1926.
In 1929, in the presence of Mussolini, he inaugurated the First Exhibition of the Lazio Fascist Union of Artists.
In 1931, he was on the organising committee of the I Quadriennale d'Arte Nazionale and, in the same year, took part in the Exhibition of Contemporary Italian Paintings in Baltimore in the United States.
He was still present at all the Quadriennali until the 7th edition in 1955.
In 1934, he was elected deputy representing the Artists' Guild and worked for the approval of the 2% law in favour of art in public buildings.
In 1937, he was awarded a gold medal at the Exposition Internationale des Art et Techniques in Paris. He was appointed academician of San Luca.
In 1943, he was appointed a tenured position at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, but in 1945 all official appointments were revoked due to the purges that followed the fall of Fascism.
He continued to work until 1952, the year of his death.
Under existing legislation, any artwork created over 70 years ago by an artist who has died can requires a license for export regardless of the work’s market price. The shipping may require additional handling days to require the license according to the destination of the artwork.
