Artist Statement // My work is a mixture of personal experience and how these relate to broader archetypes that most people encounter throughout life filtered through symbolisms culled from art history, myth and various narratives. I am not as interested in reality as I am in the ideas of imagination; evocation over accuracy.
I chose the title "Interim" for this body of work as I saw them forming and the protagonists appear in a state of flux, in between, cocooned. This reflects my working/thinking process as ideas grow and change from their impetus into something more mature and at times challenging. Thematically throughout all of my works I am concerned with thresholds connecting known and unknown/unreal.
PAUL ROMANO lives and works in Philadelphia. His work became known to a wider audience through his work in the music industry, having designed artworks for over 200 albums. Romano’s most known works in this arena would be for Mastodon, Trivium and We Came As Romans.
