About the Item
The love affair between the Emperor Hadrian and his Greek companion Antinous is perhaps the most famous and tragic romance in Ancient Rome. So great that it inspired the final great creative period of classical art and continues to do so today. It was a grand romance, not scandalous for the reason one might think: the scandal was not that Hadrian had a male courtier, but that Hadrian actually loved him and, probably, was loved in return Artist Richard Gibbons gives us his interpretation of this great classical character. Antinous's piercing gaze brings the viewer in for a closer look. His sultry, electric blue eyes are intoxicating, mesmerizing, leaving us wanting to know more. This painting is framed in an antiqued silver frame measuring 21h x 17w x 1.25 inches.

Landscape of Man - Close-Up Nude Male Body Lying Down, Original, Oil on Panel
By Richard Gibbons
Located in Chicago, IL
Through this artwork the artist achieves to decontextualize the subject and give it an entirely new meaning. By comparing the subject to the likeness of nature itself, the warm tones and smooth textures resemble that of a dune. Throughout this piece, the artist expands on a completely new take on the nude painting. The subtleties, intricacies and attention to detail really transform this piece into an ode to the human figure.
