About the Item
"In Between Waves" by Ritchelly Oliveira is a striking piece of artwork that explores themes of identity, fragility, and the constant flux of life. Set against a pristine white background, the central focus of the painting is a black man with vitiligo, a condition characterized by patches of depigmented skin. This choice of subject matter reflects Oliveira's commitment to representing diverse experiences within the black community.
At the heart of the composition, the man stands with a dignified presence, his expression suggesting introspection and resilience in the face of adversity. The portrayal of vitiligo adds depth to the narrative, emphasizing the beauty found in uniqueness and the complexities of one's relationship with their own body.
Flying in front of the man's chest and neck are doves, symbolizing fragility and vulnerability. However, there is a sense of freedom and grace in their flight. Oliveira's decision to depict the doves without paws, preventing them from ever touching the ground, adds a poignant layer of symbolism. It suggests a perpetual state of motion and instability, mirroring the ever-changing nature of life itself.
"In Between Waves" invites viewers to contemplate the delicate balance between strength and vulnerability, individuality and interconnectedness. Through his masterful use of symbolism and composition, Oliveira creates a captivating artwork that resonates on both a visual and emotional level, encouraging reflection on the human experience.

Ritchelly Oliveira, visual artist, began his work in 2012, shortly after enter visual arts at the Federal University of Goiás (UFG), he found
human figure a margin to present his speech about what he
understands the deeper aspects of emotional relationships. He works about what he suspects to be love and, believing that this is a universal feeling. Believing that affective relationships are built from the individual and
as their surroundings interfere with them, he tries to rescue the possibility
to construct discourses about love, especially black love. The importance
to reflect together on issues such as sexuality, responsibility
affective and colorism are necessary canons in this invitation to fulfill the ideals
dangerous and exclusionary forms of romantic love that circulate in our environments.
