About the Item
"Wounded Birds" by Ritchelly Oliveira is a captivating artwork that delves into the theme of vulnerability and fragility within human relationships. Against a backdrop of pristine white, two women are depicted in the center of the canvas, standing closely together. Their proximity suggests a bond of companionship and solidarity in facing life's challenges.
In front of the women's eyes, birds take flight. For Oliveira, birds symbolize fragility, and their constant flight signifies an inability to find stability or respite. This imagery evokes a sense of vulnerability and transience, as the birds soar through the air, seemingly unable to land or find a place to rest.
The juxtaposition of the women and the flying birds creates a powerful visual metaphor for the delicate balance between strength and vulnerability in human relationships. Despite the challenges represented by the flying birds, the women remain steadfast and united, finding strength in each other's presence.
The white background serves to accentuate the vulnerability of the figures and the birds, highlighting the purity and simplicity of the emotions being conveyed. Through "Wounded Birds," Oliveira invites viewers to reflect on the interconnectedness of human experiences and the importance of empathy, support, and solidarity in navigating life's difficulties.

Ritchelly Oliveira, visual artist, began his work in 2012, shortly after enter visual arts at the Federal University of Goiás (UFG), he found
human figure a margin to present his speech about what he
understands the deeper aspects of emotional relationships. He works about what he suspects to be love and, believing that this is a universal feeling. Believing that affective relationships are built from the individual and
as their surroundings interfere with them, he tries to rescue the possibility
to construct discourses about love, especially black love. The importance
to reflect together on issues such as sexuality, responsibility
affective and colorism are necessary canons in this invitation to fulfill the ideals
dangerous and exclusionary forms of romantic love that circulate in our environments.

Bird Concert (after Earlom)
By Shelley Reed
Located in Bozeman, MT
This is an oil painting on canvas and is monochromatic black.
Reed's primary focus has been the rich vein of Northern European art from the mid-17th through 18th centuries, a period of enlightenment and profound interest in science, nature, and the animal world. Animals were assigned human traits (peacock:vanity; dog:fidelity), and nature itself was considered a symbol of God's providence - a commonly held belief within the stratified, gentry dominated social order of the time.
Reed (b. 1958, New York, NY) lives and works in Boston, MA. She is a recipient of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts Maud Morgan...
