Not framed
Condition: the original canvas has been doubled and placed on a new stretcher, and traces of inpaintings - not visible to the naked eye - appear under Uv. These elements suggest a restoration in the past century.
A small lack of paint on the lower edge of the sleeve (see photo)
The particularly interesting costume and hairstyle suggest a fairly early date in the 19th century.
The fan detail is particularly charming.
Of course, a costume historian would be in a better position to give a date. Similarly, the originality of the dress might suggest a particular region of France, perhaps the southern France.

This rather mysterious portrait is perhaps a self-portrait of the artist who painted it. This is suggested by the three-quarter pose and the gaze fixed on the viewer.
What this man seems to be staring at is himself.
Similarly, the model's appearance is reminiscent of the image of the romantic, bohemian, tortured artist. It's also very interesting that he used a range of dark colours to reinforce this idea of melancholy.
