Vachagan Narazyan’s Entertainment (2023) is an original oil on canvas painting that evokes the theatrical and surreal worlds that define his mature style. Rendered in soft yet moody tones, the composition features two enigmatic figures—a puppet-like performer and a costumed character—posed atop a vibrantly rimmed circus drum. Narazyan’s symbolic vocabulary is on full display: the balancing sphere at the base and the figure’s static performance allude to the fragility of existence and the performative aspects of identity.
A member of the Soviet Non-conformist art movement, Narazyan’s work challenges the expectations of Socialist Realism, turning instead toward allegory and introspection. His technique blends classical Renaissance underpainting with expressive contemporary brushwork, creating layered textures that echo both memory and myth.
The painting is in excellent condition and is housed in a vintage-style wooden frame, which shows signs of wear and paint chipping along the edges. Originally acquired from Tryptich Art Gallery in Ukraine in June 2024, this secondary market offering comes from a private U.S. collection.
Measuring 30 x 25 cm (11.81 x 9.84 in), Entertainment is a deeply poetic work for collectors drawn to the dreamlike spaces where symbolism and memory intertwine.

Vachagan Narazyan
Vachagan Narazyan is a Ukrainian artist. He was born in Kislovodsk, Russia in 1957 and received his artistic training at the Kharkiv Art Academy. He is known for his allegorical scenes, where he creates an imaginary world filled with mystical structures, objects and people. His works are reminiscent of Peter Bruegel the Elder from old masters and Cornelis Escher from new painters. Narazyan lived in Kharkiv before the war. It is unknown where the artist lives now.
