About the Item
Urbex is the English acronym for urban exploration and is an activity that consists of searching for and locating abandoned infrastructure with the goal of visiting, photographing and conveying its contents, with particular involvement of methodologies from geography, anthropology, sociology to cultural studies.
Her works have been in the past approached to the works of Anselm Kiefer (b. 1945) and Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-1770), but in Gullotta's paintings the absence of color makes the spaces particularly ethereal, allowing them to be ideally lifted to new places and to new life.
Caligula was a respected, immensely popular figure among his troops and Roman civilians of every class, and was widely expected to eventually succeed his uncle Tiberius as emperor.
We often speak of a "brain drain," but in this case we are truly happy to be able to say that this is a "return," and an important one: an artist of international caliber who has decided to entrust her return to her homeland to Almach Art Gallery in Milan, while maintaining connections with important galleries, such as Marlborough Fine Art in London and Galerie Koch in Hanover.

A fascination with empty and abandoned spaces serves as the driving force behind Daniela Gullotta’s mixed-media paintings. Gullotta investigates the relationship between people and constructed environments, depicting dramatic exteriors and vast interiors that suggest a human presence without featuring any figures outright. Gullotta’s art-making process begins with a monochrome photograph, which she traces over and builds up using oil paint, acrylic, colored pencil, and charcoal to highlight geometric compositions. The end result is an architectural image that is mysterious and theatrical, yet grounded in reality. Favoring famous attractions in England, Italy, and Germany, such as the British Parliament and the Pantheon, Gullotta offers a new way of looking at the past. An artist of international caliber who has decided to entrust her return to her homeland to Almach Art Gallery in Milan, while maintaining connections with important galleries, such as Marlborough Fine Art in London and Galerie Koch in Hanover.
