Zhang Hongyu
No. 200 by Hongyu Zhang - Contemporary portrait painting, mixed media, orange

2021

About the Item

No. 200 is a unique painting by contemporary artist Hongyu Zhang. The painting is made with Indian ink, charcoal, pastels and acrylic on canvas, dimensions are 150 × 100 cm (59.1 × 39.4 in). The artwork is signed, sold unframed and comes with a certificate of authenticity. Using contrasting mediums like pastels, China ink, charcoal, and acrylics, this figurative piece is a portrait that visually gives the still image a dynamic dimension. On the canvas composition, the artist also used linography, a photographic printing technique on textile that adds contrast by making the dark colours in the portrait stand out against a blue background. Hongyu Zhang’s technique is part of the oldest and richest artistic heritage in the human history. The artist fuses techniques from his ancestors with acrylic, oils and pastels from the West. He works on different mediums placed directly on the floor. The expression, however, is truly from western inspiration, and the influence of engraving is obvious in his paintings.
