Subdued bronzes and saddle leather tones provide a rich background for a cluster of mysterious, ghostlike figures--"The Visitors" of the painting's title--imagined as weathered painted finials. The richly carved frame confers a timeless feeling to this distinctive work. Signed RH, lower right, for Northern Californian Richard Hackett (1917-1988), whose work was exhibited at the University of Hawaii and the Art Center School in Oakland.
