About the Item
I was a tabloid photo editor for many years, and one of the duties I was most ambivalent about in that position was sorting through paparazzi photos of various celebrities, major and minor. Those agencies took a special glee in circulating celebrity mugshots as well, sifting them in with the candid sidewalk photos as if the police booking camera were just another tool of the tabloid press. Snooki’s mugshot stood out to me, though. Although she is being booked for public drunkenness and disorderly conduct, she seems oddly serene in her mugshot, contrite. She put me in mind of a Munch Madonna painting, and that’s also how I interpreted the mugshot in this painting.
