About the Item

Sky Siouki 'Wild' Original portrait painting. Oil and mixed media on canvas. 80cm x 60cm x 1.5cm canvas size. 82cm x 62cm x 2.5cm including frame. Sold framed in a beautiful limed ash solid wood frame. Wild is an original abstract painting by Sky Siouki. In this ethereal painting a Clouded Leopard delicately pads her way through a tropical forest of rich emerald green and coral brushstrokes. The hazey pink hues and loose pastel marks evoke a dreamlike landscape. This incredibly beautiful cat once populated a large area Asia but is now only resident to a very small area largely due to poaching and deforestation. Sky painted this piece as part of a series titled ‘Endangered’ in which she hoped to raise awareness of endangered species like the Clouded Leopard. The painting has been created using a combination of mixed media including oil paint, acrylic paint, image transfers, collage, pastel, graphite and copper leaf. Her latest paintings are an exploration of how the seasonal changes and incredible beauty found in nature ground us, move us, give us hope and remind us of our place in the universe. She primarily paints with acrylic although most of her paintings are mixed media, using anything she can apply to the canvas to build texture. Using earthy and soothing colours, she allows her paintings to lead her into finding a harmonious balance of colour and texture, reminiscent of the calming environment of the wilderness. Sky attained a First Class Honours degree in textile design at Nottingham Trent University in 2013. Her background in textiles is evident in the strong focus on colour and texture in her paintings. Sky began working for herself very shortly after graduating and successfully built a brand offering printed homeware products. She has now chosen to follow her true passion and pursue painting. Sky is an emerging artist and has exhibited in galleries across the UK. Her first solo exhibition was held at ACE Arts in July 2021. Since then she has had work selected for the Society of Wildlife Artists The Natural Eye Exhibition in London, been shortlisted for the Bath Society of Artists Annual Open Exhibition and longlisted for the Jacksons Art Prize. “My artwork has recently become heavily led by the seasonal changes around me. As my inspiration has become more and more attuned to my direct experience of nature, I’ve felt myself grow more and more emotionally connected to my process. I believe the outcome is my most authentic, organic and energetic work yet. Each time I step out into nature, I take great care to notice the colours, textures, smells and energy of the places I visit throughout the year. Absorbing all of this incredible beauty everyday grounds me and gives me hope and perspective even when life has felt difficult and disordered. My work is not only a reflection of nature, but of my emotional relationship with it too. I like my artwork to remain abstract and open to interpretation by the viewer, inviting them to look deeper and explore the myriad of textures and colours that I gradually layer up using various mediums. I hope that this multitude of layers entices viewers to look beyond the surface, reaching them on a deeper level and causing them to consider how we as humans are intrinsically connected with nature.”

River. Original Statement painting, Contemporary art, Abstract Style art
Located in Deddington, GB
Original abstract oil painting on canvas, layers of dark blue space, anchored by bright pink, orange and white. Inspired by the Cornish coastal path in Zennor. Kelly Washbourne, contemporary painter, available online and in our gallery at Wychwood Art. Kelly Washbourne’s work is of immeasurable depth, texture and colour. Every canvas represents its own journey as paint is layered and balanced to create exquisite colour relationships, provoking both thought and emotion. Taking months to complete, each piece becomes an evolving record of the painting process offering glimpses into the hidden history of its creation. She is known for the bold expression of her large pieces which are full of texture, energy and vibrancy. Her small canvases, which have become popular exhibited in grids, offer an endless variety of shades and brush strokes and create a unique artwork with every composition. Graduating from Falmouth University in 2002 with a BA Hons in Fine Art, Kelly finds her inspiration in the freedom, bravery and liberty of The New York School artists. Expressionists of the 1940s and 50s such as Franz Kline, Willem de Kooning and Helen Frankenthaler incite confidence in her use of paint. She also draws reference from the beautifully energised artistry of Gillian Ayres and Peter Lanyon. Contemporary artists such as Cecily Brown and Rose Wylie...

New Horizon, Oil Painting
By Miranda Gamel

Artist Comments
A stoic portrait of a cheetah looking out over a glowing sunset, with the animal's cool and collected pose amplified by the painterly surroundings. "This piece gives a sense of the calm before the storm - of inner peace," says artist Miranda Gamel. "The cheetah is looking out into the fast landscape, looking for a sign, all while knowing there will be one to find."

About the Artist
The daughter of two artists, Miranda Gamel grew up with artistic aspirations. “When I was young, I couldn’t imagine that I would be anything else… it only seemed natural,” she says. She further developed her skills with her teachers (and fellow UGallery artists) John and Elli Milan. Miranda’s paintings exist on the edge of the surreal and the fantastical while remaining grounded in human emotion. Each painting, through its dynamic imagery, conveys the spirit embodied by the composition’s subject. Miranda’s ultimate goal is to portray each individual “being their true, raw, authentic self.”
