Claude Vénard was born in Paris in 1913 to an established, middle-class family from Bourgogne. Although he was a businessman, his father accepted and supported his devotion to the arts. The blossoming artist was accepted at the prestigious École des Beaux-arts but quickly rejected the formality of traditional academic art training. Instead, Vénard began attending night courses at the École de Arts Appliqués at age seventeen to supplement his independent education. After World War II, she attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz, Poland. There she studied with the famous abstract constructionists, Wladyslaw Strzeminski and Stefan Wegner from whom she learned the principles of Modern Art as laid down by the European Cubists. Sobel’s work was selected for the First Exhibit of Modern Art Museum Krakow in 1948-49. Judith Sobel emigrated to the newly found Israel where she lived for five years, becoming very active in Israel’s emerging art world. Her work was collected and exhibited by the major art museums of Israel including the Museum of Modern Art at Haifa; her art was regularly shown in the Israeli galleries. The artist first studied at the Bernard Palissy School of Drawing in Paris. There he learned mythological and religious subjects, the art of portraiture, still life and of course, wall decoration, which became his favourite medium. His career began as an architectural decorator for the Galland house in Paris. He then collaborated with the orientalist architect Alexandre Marcel. Noticed at the at the 1900 Universal Exhibition, he decided to emancipate himself and presented his his own projects. It was at this time that Georges-Louis laude was to seduce some of the most influential personalities of their time with his talent. First of all King Leopold II of Belgium, followed immediately by Baron Empain became infatuated with the artist to decorate palaces and flats.
