Signed by the artist in the lower right corner. Mounted and presented in a double mat, in a modern silver frame. Image size: 11"H x 8"W Barbara I. Gibson (American, 20th century) is from Aptos, California. Her artwork has been in juried shows of the Santa Cruz Art League.

    Bold and angular composition with cannas by Claire Weist (American, 1930-2014). Bright red flowers jump out from a saturated green background. Large leaves act as a background, covering the majority of the composition, intertwined with other foliage. This piece is executed on top of a previous composition and the artist has left part of it visible around the edges to act as a border. Signed "Weist" in the lower left corner. Title and artist's info on verso. No frame. Board size: 20"H x 16"W Claire Weist (American, 1930-2014) was an artist known primarily for her watercolor compositions. She won several awards throughout her career, including the jury award for graphics from the Illinois Watercolor Society. Weist was originally from the Boston area and studied at the Massachusetts College of Art and then Harvard. After spending time teaching art and as an illustrator, Weist moved to Crete, Illinois and opened her own studio, where she spent the remainder of her professional career.
