About the Item

My work is deeply rooted in textured minimalism, with a focus on the exploration of space, line, and form. Minimalism, as I see it, offers a powerful extension of abstraction—the idea that art should exist as its own reality, independent from imitation or representation. This notion resonates with me on a personal level, providing a sense of freedom and liberation. I’ve always been someone who leans toward simplicity, whether in life or in my art. Perhaps that’s why my work tends to gravitate toward a straightforward, honest approach—much like how I approach the world. In my recent pieces, I’ve been experimenting with a blend of neutral and bright colors, using them in different ways across various abstract bodies of work. The neutral tones allow me to create balance and quiet contemplation, while the brighter colors—often unexpected—bring energy and movement, pushing boundaries and adding a dynamic quality to the piece. Each color choice serves as an extension of my emotional response to the composition, and I enjoy finding ways for them to interact, complement, or contrast with one another. Alongside my abstract explorations, I have also created a figurative collection, bringing human form into my otherwise minimalistic approach. In these pieces, I use line and shape to suggest the body, its movements, and its presence, but always through a lens of abstraction. The human form becomes an element in the larger conversation of space and balance, becoming part of the visual language I’ve been developing. Originally from Lincoln, Nebraska, I’ve called Del Mar, California home for over 25 years, where the coastal environment continuously influences my work. The stillness of the ocean, the natural beauty of the landscape, and the dynamic energy of the community all feed into my creative process. I’ve been painting for over 40 years, and my journey as an artist was sparked during a trip to Santa Fe—where I encountered some of the most compelling, and at times, jarring, art I’d ever seen. That experience left a lasting impression and led me to further pursue my passion. I began taking art classes at Mira Costa College, and I’ve been developing my practice ever since. Currently, I teach experimental art workshops at Art on 30th. Through my work and teaching, I continue to embrace the idea of simplicity and balance, hoping to create pieces that are both visually and emotionally resonant.

Princess
By Nora See
Located in New Orleans, LA
NORA SEE grew up in Allentown, Pennsylvania, where, as a child, she taught herself to draw. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the Corcoran College of Art and Design and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of New Orleans. She works and lives in New Orleans. In her oil paintings, Nora See renders framed paintings on walls with which human figures interact. Through her classical painting style and the use of historical visual references, her pieces contrast the past with the present. By combining these temporal elements with the use of frames as containers, she explores themes of consumption, imprisonment, and liberation. Nora’s work has been exhibited in a variety of venues and is also in the personal collection of Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds. The artist says of her work... “Good artists borrow. Great artists steal.” A quote oft attributed to various sources that was never actually uttered by any of them. Though Mark Twain elaborated on the sentiment: “Ninety-nine parts of all things that proceed from the intellect are plagiarisms.” In the Framed Series, I use my 1% contribution to combine issues of consumption with my autobiography. I paint copies of copies of paintings within paintings to reference the appropriation, commodification, and altered continuum of art. My paintings of paintings are based on photographs of originals to perpetuate the continual distillation of form, given the ease with which images are presently exchanged and modified. Further, by reducing historically significant paintings to framed objects...
