Bruno Donzelli
NATURA MORTA OVALE CON VERDE ORIENTALE - Mixed Media on Canvas

1980

About the Item

Natura morta ovale con verde orientale - Bruno Donzelli Italia - Mixed media on canvas cm. 40 x 50- Wooden frame cm. 58 x 70 Signed in the lower center Bruno Donzelli was born in Naples on April 12, 1941. At a very young age, just twenty-one, he held a personal exhibition at the Galleria del Fiorino in Florence in 1962, after having been present in 1960 at the San Fedele Prize in Milan, at the Termoli Prize and in 1962 at the Prize announced by the Ministry of Education and held at the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome. The works created by the artist in the mid-sixties are influenced by the atmosphere animated by the innovations introduced by Pop Art, by an ironic density, with installations that recover the discursive sense of comics. Towards the end of the 1960s, Donzelli's attention shifts to the 'sphere of the fantastic', enhanced by a sort of expressionistic dynamism, such as to make the pictorial system more ironic. With the experiences of the early seventies, the artist pays attention to the reinterpretation of the images drawn from the repertoire of the avant-gardes of our century. In 1977 the Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara hosts his extensive personal exhibition, curated by Roberto Sanesi: the works these years have as their central theme the 'filing cabinet of art', an expression that encompasses the careful analysis that Donzelli makes on the events and protagonists of the art of our century. In 1984 he began the cycle to which he later gave the title of Siparietti impertinent. From 1989 he also dedicated himself to works on ceramics, creating unique pieces and series of hand-painted multiples in Deruta, Perugia. . Since 2000, the Giovanni Di Summa gallery in Rome has been archiving his works for a future publication of the general catalog. In February 2000, his large anthological exhibition was inaugurated in the presence of over two thousand people at the Royal Palace of Caserta. The exhibition, accompanied by a monographic catalog published by Charta, collects over seventy works from the last thirty years, retracing with critical attention the artistic itinerary of Bruno Donzelli.

Earth, air, water, and fire are the center subjects of my art. I live in New York City-it is close to the ocean, and I’ve developed a deep affinity for the sea, which has also evoked sentiments in me for what has across on the other side of the ocean. Majestic mountains in Europe and the U.S. those I’ve seen with spectacular ridgelines or forms are what I want to pay homage to. The sky’s ever-changing atmosphere, fire’s brilliance, and all the energies embodied in nature are the most things that I am in awe of. —- Leigh Wen

"Pradosh’s paintings have a surrealistic quality, the imagery is dreamy and mystical and rendering is such as if there is some kind of romance and magic happening amongst the colours in his palette. His paintings are the result of brilliant culminations of feelings and things that are between imagination and reality." Style : Pradosh’s works can be described as psychic automatism in its pure state. His works are expressive and his palette vibrant and gorgeous. Nature is the frequent imagery that we see in his paintings. Sometimes his imagery is outlandish, perplexing and uncanny as it is meant to shake the viewer and make them to think beyond the theories which they have guarded themselves with. Lot of elements that we see in pradosh’s paintings also come from his childhood days in Odisha. His paintings often take us on a nostalgic ride where we see elements which we were so used to and have now learnt to live without. He uses common elements that we see in our day to day life to convey his feelings and thought which makes his works all the more interesting. His paintings leave the viewer perplexed at the first glance but a deeper look gives the insight into his thoughts that instigate him to create. Pradosh’s paintings have a surrealistic quality, the imagery is dreamy and mystical and rendering is such as if there is some kind of romance and magic happening amongst the colours in his palette. His paintings are the result of brilliant culminations of feelings and things that are between imagination and reality. They reflect his genuine concern about issues he feels for. He emphasizes on the power of imagination and believes that revelation could be found anywhere….on the streets and in everyday life. Through his paintings artist depicts the notion that how our high pace life is making all of us loose that contact from the nature or even with ourselves.
