About the Item

Artwork sold with frame (79 x 60 cm) Charles Auguste Humbert, born in 1891 in Geneva and died in 1958, was a Swiss artist, mainly known for his work as a painter. He lived at a time when Swiss art was experiencing significant development, influenced by the European art movements of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Humbert studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Geneva, where he was trained in classical painting techniques. Over time, he developed a personal style that oscillated between realism and a more impressionistic approach. His works are often characterized by careful attention to detail and a restrained, harmonious color palette. He painted mainly landscapes, still lifes, and scenes of daily life, capturing the essence of Switzerland and its surroundings. His works reflect a deep sensitivity to light and atmosphere, paying homage to the natural beauty of his surroundings. Although less known than some of his contemporaries, Charles Auguste Humbert contributed to the richness of Geneva's artistic heritage. His works continue to be appreciated for their authenticity and their ability to evoke emotions through seemingly simple but deeply contemplative scenes.

The Tulips, Art Deco Still Life Oil on Canvas of Tulips in a Vase in an Interior
Located in Cotignac, FR
French Art Deco still life of a vase of tulips in an interior by Auguste Mallard. The painting is signed bottom right and presented in a period patinated wood frame. A colourful and strong painting of an interior view, a table with books and as the centre piece a beautiful blue ceramic vase with twisted handles holding a magnificent bouquet of brightly coloured tulips. Mallard has captured the abandon of the blooms in the vase, the way tulips twist and furl raising and lowering their beautiful colourful petals. The colours of the flowers really stand out against the more muted tones of the background, curtain and table. A very elegant and stylish painting. This painting has the feel of some of the still life works from the same period by Tamara de Lempicka who was a contemporary of Mallard painting...
