Dani Humberstone
Discover new paintings by artist Dani Humberstone. Dani Humberstone uses the symbolism of ripe fruit to illustrate the narrative. Painting directly from life allows her to translate three dimensions into two and capture the essence or life force of the subject. Individual fruits damage easily; so as they slowly age she tracks their gradual decay in the painting as she works. Fruit has been used metaphorically in art and language for centuries. It has helped Illustrate Fairy Tales, Mythology, The Bible and Shakespeare.etc An apple in Renaissance painting was symbolic of ‘a fallen woman’ and we still use fruit analogies to describe ourselves and our lives today. In her own work the artist also uses elements of abstraction, landscape or line drawing to hint at a deeper narrative within and opening the door to unseen possibilities beyond the immediate image. Dani Humberstone paints in oils, predominantly Old Holland Classic Oilcolour - using transparent glazes over opaque colour which creates intense levels of luminosity and depth. Strong light and shade, chiaroscuro, give atmosphere and tone.

The Finding Space series of work was inspired by images I had seen through shop windows at twilight. With only vague references to objects, I have tried to capture a sense of the light, space and atmosphere inside.

This last year has made me realise that painting inspiration is right on my doorstep. Noticing the changing seasons has a great influence on my colour palette. These colours and marks are testament to the beauty of our natural environment.

Berry's Bay (20.11.18) - Large Original Maritime Boat Oil Painting on Canvas
By Sally West
Located in Los Angeles, CA
This original coastal painting by Sally West features textured impasto boats floating in a serene blue harbor, making it a perfect choice for collectors seeking contemporary seascape art with nautical charm. Using her signature palette knife technique, West captures the peaceful rhythm of boats bobbing on still waters with thick, expressive strokes and a soft, sunlit palette. The composition evokes a sense of quiet leisure and breezy summer afternoons, offering a tranquil escape through layered oil textures and minimalistic detail.
What makes Sally West’s original oil paintings so recognizable is the combination of texture, abstraction, and calming colors. The movement of her paint strokes on canvas is reminiscent of a light breeze or waves.
Each painting is completed in one day, with the date present in the title. West's textural pieces take at least eight weeks to completely dry. Once dry, the thick paint takes on an almost sculptural effect. Overall, West’s color palette is uniquely her own, conveying a very specific feeling of comfort associated with familiarity and softness.
This large, one-of-a-kind 39-inch high by 59-inch wide artwork is painted with thick, textural oil paint on canvas. It is wired and ready to hang. It is signed by the artist on the front lower right corner as well as the back. The sides of this artwork are painted, and it is ready to hang. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping are available. A certificate of authenticity issued by Artplex Gallery is included.
Sally West was born in West Wyalong, Central New South Wales. West grew up on a farm and, as a teenager, moved to Eastern Sydney for school. Throughout her life, she has traveled through and lived in both Europe and South East Asia to gain inspiration for her artwork. Although her international journeys have influenced her style, the subjects of her paintings are very close to home. The subjects of all of her paintings exist in an infinite timeline inspired by her location in Eastern Australia.
Since West’s first breakthrough solo exhibition in New York in 2011, her artworks have become highly sought after internationally. She has won and placed as a finalist in numerous worldwide art competitions and juried exhibitions throughout her career. Her artworks are exhibited in influential galleries across Australia and the USA and are included in significant art collections around the globe.
Artplex Gallery has been representing and exhibiting Sally West's original artworks since 2019. "3 Pears Still Life with illusions" 40x50" soft focus oil on canvas
Located in Southampton, NY
This oil painting from 1985 is priced at a fraction of the original price. It was in our storage area and we just decided to put it on sale at a price which is a fraction of the original price. These still life with illusion paintings were originally sold in New York City at the D&D building on 59th street. It was a building that only interior designers were allowed to shop at. the general public could only go in with their interior designer to select an item. This came from the Haller Gallery in that space. It was originally priced at $3500 when at the gallery in the D&D building in NYC.
It is oil on canvas and in very subtle colors. The top right area of the canvas show slight lines of cracking to the paint. You can see that on one of the close up images.
The pale thick colors (The illusions) give a 3d floating look.
We have another Still Life with 4 Pears also on sale this week.
