About the Item

Bold and textured still life by Diana Mallett (American, b. 1981). A bright yellow banana and bright red apple sit on a multicolored surface, against a dark blue background. This piece is expressive and executed with thick texture. Signed, dated, and titled on verso ("4/3/17 Diana Mallett Fruit") Presented in a white mat. Mat size: 11"H x 14"W Paper size: 9"H x 12"W Diana Mallett (b. 1981) has been a member of the Claraty Arts Project since 2010. “I wanted to paint the first time I saw art.” The process of painting and her progress inspires her. In effect, Ms. Mallett strives to create art that inspires others. Her small-scale abstract pieces reveal her energetic, playful spirit. Her large-scale paintings invite discovery of her mark. Circles, dots and spontaneous brush strokes unify through an overarching pixelated process that transforms into landscapes and portraits. In the past few years, Mallett has taken an interest in abstract art as well as representational work.

I have a succulent in a ceramic sugar skull pot in my kitchen and painted it from life. It has a wonderful expression on its face, and I enjoy the spikey succulent growing from the top like hair.
