About the Item
This piece is an original oil painting on linen panel. It features a blue and white porcelain bowl holding a bouquet of Hellebores. In the Victorian language of flowers, Hellebores symbolized new life, dawn, and the onset of spring-hence the title of this piece. Its overall framed dimensions are approximately 21x21 inches and it is framed in a gold frame with hand-painted navy blue accent. Additional photos are available on request.
GC Williams has a degree in art history which gave her an understanding of, and appreciation for, not only the art of the past, but the historical events and ideologies that fostered various aesthetics, movements, and styles.
She has studied at several classical ateliers, including three years at Boston's Academy of Realist Art. Her work has been shown in galleries throughout the US and is included in public and private collections. She maintains a studio on the north shore of Massachusetts.
"My work is about the little moments of beauty that comprise our existence: the greening of the landscape in early spring, the glint of light on an object; growing things and made objects. I enjoy creating interesting interactions, and making up narratives. I love the way light animates objects and the life shadows give to a space. Humans are innately creative beings. We create in myriad ways--painting is one of them. I have made pictures for as long as I remember. While I appreciate many kinds of art, for me, the ultimate goal is to make a beautiful painting that show parts of the process--evidence of an individual behind the easel. I love calligraphic brush marks and leaving parts of a picture to the viewer's imagination. I love pairing the realistic with the made-up. In this, we participate in creating art together."

Ginny Williams
Ginny Williams is an American artist currently living and working in New England. Her art training began at an early age when she was given the opportunity to study with working artists as part of her elementary and secondary education. In college, while auditing painting classes on the side, she chose to earn her degree in art history-something she sees as highly valuable to her development and career as an artist. It was during these studies that she gained an appreciation for the broad scope of artistic expression over the centuries. She has a particular fondness for the northern European artists of the 17th and 18th centuries alongside much art of the late 19th century. She finds inspiration in artists’ ability to imbue everyday objects and scenes of daily life with a dignity and meaning above what is gained with a cursory glance. In her work, Williams strives to make pieces both beautiful, thoughtful, and able to speak to contemporary life despite their traditional style. Initially self-taught, Williams studied at several classical ateliers over the course of ten years, learning the methods and materials employed for centuries by artists. Her work has been shown at galleries around the country and she is currently represented at galleries in Atlanta, Cleveland, Portsmouth and Wenham. Williams maintains a studio in Wenham, MA, as well as one in Amesbury, MA, alongside her husband, the painter Donald Jurney. “My work is about little moments of beauty that comprise our existence if we will but pay attention, as well as the things and the relationships that tie us all together as people living, breathing, and experiencing life on the same planet. Whether it is the glint of light on an object; growing things, made objects, or the quiet glance of a figure, I enjoy finding interesting interactions between objects, people, and space. I strive to create a story that the viewer can enter, and interpret alongside me. In this we become partners in the creation of art.”

The Stillness of Morning
By Ginny Williams
Located in Wenham, MA
This piece is an original oil painting on linen canvas. It features a beautiful bouquet of summer flowers: carnations, chrysanthemums, geraniums, foxglove, all arranged in a blue and white vase. The early morning lights gently washes over the arrangement from the left, casting lyrical shadows on the wall behind. A peaceful portrait of a beautiful, ephemeral moment.

Morning Light
By Maryann Lucas
Located in Sag Harbor, NY
“Morning Light” epitomizes the abundance of Spring with its bustling bouquet of white lilies, yellow roses, and a sliced open, ready to be eaten pink grapefruit. Despite the levity of the scene, Lucas has challenged herself with space, making a clear contrast between subject and background. She is consciously rejecting the “ironed on” effect of a subject onto a canvas, a trap to which lesser artists might succumb.
Artist Bio
Maryann Lucas lives and works in Sag Harbor. She is primarily self-taught but has also received instruction and support from wonderful and generous members of the East End artistic community. Working exclusively in oils, Lucas sets out almost daily to create plein aire landscapes and seascapes. In her studio, she works directly from life and captures the beauty of natural light as it transforms ordinary objects into visual delights.
Lucas wants her work to celebrate all that is well with this world and brilliant in this life, despite its pockets of darkness.
For me, she says, I know I am in the Presence of something beautiful, when it steals my breath, silences my mind, pushes out everything else and draws me in. I trust That. I use That to guide my hands as I arrange a still life or scan a landscape to determine where to set down my easel. Ultimately, That is what drives me to paint.
Becoming evermore skilled as an oil painter is another of Lucas goals. To that end she remains teachable, finding it refreshing and vital for her own growth to paint with others. She has studied with favorite artists including Michael Klein...
