About the Item

This exceptional artwork is currently on display and available for sale at Signet Contemporary Art Gallery and online. In this vibrant still life, Heinz Schönhammer captures the simple yet captivating beauty of ripe tomatoes with astonishing realism. Painted in oil on canvas, the composition invites the viewer to experience the freshness of nature’s bounty as if the tomatoes had just been picked. The artist’s meticulous brushwork brings out every detail—from the glistening water droplets to the elegant curl of each green stem—creating a sense of abundance and vitality. Schönhammer’s style leans towards hyperrealism within the tradition of still life, where the everyday is elevated to the extraordinary. The tightly packed arrangement of tomatoes fills the canvas with a rhythmic repetition that feels both natural and harmonious. The green stems twist playfully, breaking up the smooth curves of the fruit and adding a dynamic, almost sculptural element to the composition. The colour palette is a feast for the senses—deep, luscious reds dominate, contrasting beautifully with the vivid green of the stems. Subtle highlights and delicate shadows enhance the three-dimensionality of each tomato, while the warm undertones convey the sun-ripened richness of the fruit. This piece is a celebration of nature’s palette, rendered with an artist’s keen eye and an appreciation for life’s simplest pleasures. Artist Biography: Heinz Schönhammer was born in Vienna, Austria. After completing his fine art studies, he sought artistic inspiration across Europe, traveling to the Netherlands and Germany before eventually settling in Turin, Italy. There, he established significant connections with notable Italian artists such as Antonio Carena, Lucio Fontana, and Piero Ruggeri—broadening his artistic horizons and influence. In 1975, Schönhammer relocated with his family to Meran in South Tyrol, where the breathtaking Alpine landscape became a powerful source of inspiration. It was there that he refined his distinctive style, which blends photorealism with a deeply personal pursuit of harmony and beauty. Schönhammer is renowned for his mastery of Hyperrealism, a genre that demands extraordinary attention to detail and an analytical eye. His work reflects a deep enthusiasm for the aesthetics of balance and tranquility, making his paintings emotionally resonant and visually arresting. Over the course of his career, Schönhammer has received widespread acclaim from both critics and collectors. His work has been mentioned in major art journals such as Arte Italiana per il Mondo and Bolaffi, as well as in encyclopaedias highlighting artists of international relevance. He has exhibited widely in solo and group shows across Europe and the United States, including in Vienna, London, New York, Los Angeles, Salzburg, Düsseldorf, and Dallas. Today, Heinz Schönhammer continues to live and work in his native Vienna, where he remains dedicated to his artistic practice. Cherries - original realism still life painting - contemporary Art
Located in London, Chelsea
This exceptional artwork is currently on display and available for sale at Signet Contemporary Art Gallery and online. A feast of form and color, Cherries by Heinz Schönhammer is a celebration of pure, gleaming abundance. The canvas overflows with clusters of ripe, red fruit, each cherry painted with a mirror-like sheen that catches and reflects light in dazzling variation. The repetition of round forms and taut skin creates a rhythm that pulses with life and ripeness. Schönhammer’s hyperrealist style turns the surface into a field of sensual delight—light glances across glossy surfaces while stems curve like elegant calligraphy. Deep burgundies, bright crimsons, and inky purples intermingle, lending the composition a velvety richness that’s as tactile as it is visual. Cherries is a vibrant ode to color, excess, and nature’s indulgence, elevated to visual poetry through masterful control of light and tone.
