About the Item
This exceptional painting is currently on display at Signet Contemporary Art Gallery and available for purchase online. In Lobster I, Ian Bertolucci presents a jubilant ode to kitsch, inflating a children’s party balloon into a larger-than-life icon of painterly precision. The glossy red lobster, complete with stylized claws and comic eyes, hovers weightlessly against a clean white background, its shiny surface capturing reflections and distortions with dazzling accuracy.
The hyperrealism of the balloon is captivating—creased mylar, subtle shadows, and golden accents shimmer as if the surface were truly metallic. The body bulges and dips with the pressure of air inside, and every fold is attended to with reverent detail. The illusion is so complete that the painting nearly floats off the wall, turning flatness into depth.
More than just technical bravado, Lobster I is a celebration of joy and absurdity. It nods to Pop Art, childhood, and even consumerism—but it does so with a painter’s soul. This is a work that exudes personality, elevating the disposable into the unforgettable.

Artist Biography:
Ian Bertolucci, a native Italian immersed in the world of POP ART, cultivated his artistic fervor from a tender age. Rooted in the vibrant seaside town of Viareggio, his artistic odyssey found its genesis in the lively and colorful papier-mâché constructions of the annual carnival, sparking the flame of creative passion within him. As Ian traversed the corridors of life, his love for painting burgeoned. His parental abode metamorphosed into a sanctuary for his burgeoning collection of canvases, a tangible testament to his unwavering commitment to the art form. In 2019, his journey culminated in the completion of his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara, Italy. Subsequently, Ian’s online presence propelled him into the realm of a full-fledged artist. Ian Bertolucci’s oil paintings stand out for their opulent and vivid hues, theatrical lighting, and bold contrasts, collectively shaping and almost sculpting lively, colorful forms. Anchored in his work are the fundamental elements of rhythm and repetition, where certain subjects are meticulously studied and repeated, bordering on the obsessive. His artistic evolution has steered towards an exploration of the fluid, reflective, and translucent qualities inherent in everyday materials, pushing the boundaries of his creativity. Distinguished by an extensive color palette, Ian’s art doesn’t just aim to create visual impact; it aspires, above all, to infuse joy into the beholder’s experience. With a newfound focus on eliciting childlike wonder and playfulness, Ian Bertolucci endeavors to offer the world a lighthearted and joyful perspective through his art, encapsulating the essence of his creative vision.
“By representing what surrounds me I am able to see and perceive life in a completely different dimension. Even the most seemingly insignificant things are able to convey a lot to us while remaining simple….” – Ian Bertolucci
