The now 77-year-old artist is still most in her element when she is painting in her beautiful studio in the middle of The Hague. One of the most popular artists in our gallery is a true master of the small still-life paintings
The small works of this 'Grande Dame' are of the highest quality. Smuling knows how to turn an 'ordinary' pot into something beautiful that makes you stand still with wonder and admiration.
Pots of all kinds of 'origin', combined with flowers in the most diverse colors, placed in 1000s of visible touches. However, the buttons are only visible if you stand with your nose against the work (with reading glasses).
Walking away from the work, the object suddenly takes center stage in a space that offers tranquility and demands attention.

Ingrid Smuling
Ingrid Smuling is an artist and has won a wide audience as a painter of contemporary still lifes. In her realistic still lifes, preferably in a modest format, she creates tranquil images of objects observed with love, in combination with flowers and fruits. In her way, Smuling creates a unique atmosphere in a subtle play of light and shadow. The paintings exude a clear and serene atmosphere. The fabric expression shows her knowledge of the craft to a large extent. Smuling has a very personal style of painting, using a perfect balance between realism and figuration. With a subtle but still visible painting test, she knows how to create charm and atmosphere in her paintings like no other. Smuling followed her education at the Royal Academy for Visual Arts in The Hague.
