James Del Grosso"Mulford Onions" Large Highly Realistic Still Life, 2 Onions, Gray/Green Ground2008
2008
About the Item
"Mulford Onions," Oil on Canvas, 34 x 50 Inches, is a large-scale, elegant, very realistic still life of 2 onions side by side on a light green/gray ground. The monumental proportions of the onions is in contrast to their intimate and charming connection.
James Del Grosso (1941-2013) was a realist painter of uncanny abilities who lovingly painted surfaces that challenged him and who had the great gift of paring down an object to its essence. He noted that he was not so interested in painting the object, as in how the light fell upon it. While bordering on photographic, his paintings are more in the spirit of the great 17th century Dutch masters who were also were drawn to light and sparkle, and who understood the power of juxtaposition and the contrast of objects against stark, often black, backgrounds. Unlike many still life artists whose selections of objects appear secondary to their interest in
showcasing technique, Del Grosso chose well - his subjects are as delightful and gratifying as his ability to paint them.
James Del Grosso was born in NY, attended Cooper Union,
and resided in East Hampton. For most of his adult life he was represented in NYC by one of the leading Soho galleries, O.K. Harris Works of Art, and also exhibited extensively in the U.S. and overseas. His paintings are included in numerous significant private collections and are regularly exhibited in shows of contemporary realism and still life painting in galleries and museums throughout the world, including the Hudson River Museum, the Tucson Museum of Art, the Weatherspoon Art Gallery, the Butler Institute of Art, the Naples, Museum, the Nevada Institute for Contemporary Art, and the Guild Hall.

View All'"Composition with Polka Dot Mug, Silver Russian Cup, and Lemons"
By Olga Antonova
Located in Wellesley, MA
Olga Antonova’s subject is compositions of extraordinarily elegant, beautiful and whimsical cups, plates, teapots, vases and dishes, but there is something playful about these paintings. Stacked teacups are also amusing, having a kind of jaunty and upbeat personality of their own. Polka dots are as endearing to adults as to children, and everyone responds to the bling and sparkle of gold and silver while marveling at Antonova’s seemingly effortless ability to paint these radiant details. This composition of rich patterns and intricate formal detail is the perfect complement to the more minimal shapes and brilliant yellow of the lemons, and Antonova's compositions are a wonderful twist on the classic traditions of still life painting. This work is unframed.
Antonova's paintings can be installed individually, they also work extremely well in groupings as part of a series.
Commissions incorporating one’s own personal collection of family heirlooms is also an option.
