About the Item

Represented By George Billis Gallery. As the practitioner of a non-verbal art, Jarvis Wilcox’s first objective is to intrigue the viewer into spending enough time with the painting to absorb the atmosphere and be seduced into entering a new unfamiliar world. The art in painting is not simply the presentation of an object or objects so that the viewer is wowed by the trompe l’oeil or the virtuosity of execution, but an exploration of interactions of the objects represented as well as their relationships to their surroundings, the haunting echoes of relationships in the everyday experience of the viewer. In other words, the poetry of painting lies not in the images presented so much as in the emotional connections stimulated, brought to mind and made real by each viewer’s individual, unique response to the picture. Each viewer must have her/his own response, but if the work is good, all responses will be related, though individual. Art, any art, is a unique means of communicating and experiencing intuitive and/or subjective knowledge and understanding. This is the well-spring of Wilcox’s painting. He communicates the excitement, the delight, and the insight he discovered in seeing and then making the painting. In a way a painting is a mood sustained and realized. A picture cannot be comprehended in a glance; paintings, like any of the temporal arts as well as good red wines, take time to reveal themselves. Please enjoy!

White Water Lily
By Katherine Kean
Located in Palm Desert, CA
I was inspired to paint this white water lily that quietly glowed from a shady, dark spot in a pond. This painting is made in oil on a gallery wrapped linen canvas. The 1 1/2 inch edges are hand painted to coordinate with the front. It is wired with finger friendly wire and ready to install, and includes an official certificate of authenticity. Katherine Kean’s paintings seek moments of breath-taking transition in nature; a gathering of clouds or changing tides; times when the elements of the landscape combine with the alchemy of imagination to illuminate the world of heightened mood and sensation. Her work aims to capture these fleeting moments in time and reveal the serene center that can arise in the midst of nature's turbulence. Katherine Kean has exhibited in museums and galleries across the United States, and has been acquired by many private and corporate collections. She has been honored to have her work selected for Bloomingdales in Santa Monica, California, Schiffer's 100 Artists of the West Coast II, Paint America's Paint the Parks, Manhattan Arts Healing Arts International...
